I work in the Bracknell/Heathrow area a couple of days a week so I've been taking advantage of that and sticking the bike in the car and doing the Swinley forest trails after work.
Although its a good set up its getting a bit same-ish and it looks like there's a million other trails than the waymarked Blue and reds, just wondered if anyone out there has any good tips on what else to do other than just go explore?
Also, is there anything near to the Heathrow area, can see lots of bridlewas but no obvious local MTB trails?

There's nothing close to Heathrow that I'm aware of but you can follow the bridleway up to Black Park and there's some singletrack up there that the local club hold XC races on.

well......

I'm no good at numbers, being from an age where trails had names, but if you know where upper star post is, there's a flat twisty trail that comes out near a reservoir (Not the one up by Savile Row) and you cross a fireroad into another flat trail across some scrubby open ground. Where that trail ends, instead of turning left as posted go straight on and over the fenceline into crowthorne woods. You should see a bench 'Pips Seat' in front of you, there a trail behind that which leads into dozens of others.

Or-- seek out the Tunnel Hill Trolls and go and ride some of the other areas completely; Tunnel Hill, Deepcut, Porridge Pot, etc.

I live in west London and had been going to Swinley for a couple of years. I've now pulled my finger out and started exploring the Surrey Hills with the help of a few GPX files off the internet. I've been using Dorking as a base as it's convenient for the trains.

If you're not going past it on the way home it might be a bit out of the way for you though?

+1 for the trolls

As for Swinley, explore Crowthorne woods as above (end of red 5,do a right/left instead of the signposted left), from the top of Surrey hill there's a few options instead of red 15,from the start of blue 7 you can find new England switchbacks, there's the old "whole 9 yarfs" from stickler to the manhole cover, and of course loads of options from the clubhouse (top of fire road climb that leads to derstalker and labyrinth, try turning right instead of left and also other options near the deerstalker).

Thursday nights they do a ride from the bike hut. Worth a go as sure they'll move off the ginger.

Likewise, happy to show you one evening around the 'not Swinley' area - as long as you aren't superfast and gnarr.....

+1 for Surrey Hills if you can make it over to Peaslake.

The corkscrew up by the Caesars Camp end is good fun.

Shhhsh!

There's nothing else. Only Swinley red & blue ginger and cobbles. Nothing else in the South East.

😉

p.s. just going out and exploring is something I really enjoy. Riding with groups is good too and do find things that way also, though groups tend to get stuck into regular routes.

Trolls - start on a Monday ride, especially if fitness isn't your thing. Great bunch. They like to keep moving and not faff about. Night rides mainly. Summer is okay for seeing new trails. When it gets dark you'll still love the trails but won't know how to find them in daylight.

Dunno if they've slowed down again (Tuesday used to be 'average' but became the new Thursday) but last time I went on a Tuesday I vomited.

Is there anything worth riding at Round Hill (between Broadmoor and the road research place)?

not particularly, fireroads as an alternative to the Devil's Highway but really the good stuff is to the East of the A3095

Except of course there isn't any good stuff really 😉
