Hi, ive got an Orange Gyro that came with Deore brakes with the discs for unsintered pads.
I havent ridden it yet, but have a pr of XT brakes and rotors sat on my spares shelf.
The rear brake hose runs through the swinging arm as it is internally routed.
Should i
i)just ride it with resin pads
ii) swap the discs so i can run sintered pads
iii) leave the hose in situ and just swap the xt caliper and m/c onto the deore hose
any help, observations or pitfalls happily received
thanks
Fairly sure sintered pads will be Ok with your rotors
It does have etched into the rotors 'resin pads only' or some such.
they are the cheapest Shimano rotor, so i was assuming they would not be as hard
Ah, been a while since I had Deore brakes ๐ณ
Ride with sintered pads and when the rotors finally wear out buy something a bit fancier.
Cheapest and least faff, and will last a while and be fine: Ride with resin pads until they wear out. Then get sintered pads and replace discs when they wear out. These rotors are just a bit 'softer' so will wear quicker, but this way you don't have to swap out calipers or levers and you replace the pads and discs once they are worn rather than before.
those rotors lasted ages with sintered pads for me.
you will die.
But probably not related to disc brake rotor material.

If the brakes were decent I'd just say run resin pads. Bulk buy Superstar Kevlar pads. Set of 4 is same price as 1 of branded sintered, and will last longer as a whole, better feel and modulation, and less noise. Even though they individually wear quicker than sintered.
But as you've got XT lying around, I'd fit them ๐ . Up to you on the pads, though I still much prefer the Kevlar pads.
Hose should be reusable so long as it's the same oil inside. If the XT have hose attached though I'd just use that.
Hi Guys, thanks for your help.
I have gone with forum wisdom. I will run it as it is till pads are worn out. Then i will go sintered or kevlar till the discs give up. Then fit new discs.
thanks
