Aftenoon,

I know a little about a lot but forks leave me thinking argggh!

I'm builing up an On One 456 and want 5" travel but apart from that I don't know what ones to go for.

My brief is 5" air fork, QR fitmement with lock out and in white lol oh and my budget is around £350 - £400 and I want a new set not second hand :0)

Can I have some recomendations please and a bit of education as to what to consider.

Cheers all!
Gary

Rockshox, then take a look at the rest, eventually come back and buy some*.

*This recommendation is purely from a decent performance/reliability/price point of view and doesn't take any of your particular requirements (colour/QR/etc) into account

Something like this fits most of your requirements except the colour I think, £20 over budget though.

Rockshox Revelation RL or RLT. Available in white or black, 150mm travel, QR available. Should be between £350 and £400 depending on who has your colour, axle, model option in stock. Try Merlin first

Bluffers guide to forks based on 1,000 of hours of forums mags and looking at bikes. This is not based on actual riding

Rock shox

pros

Reliable and do a fork for every budget. Always seem to just get on and work. If you are a geek and get high end ones the motion control has 2 settings which can be endlessly discused

cons

some mystique about compression damping that isn't quite right until you've sold your house and bought black box motion control

Fox

pros

They are cool, I know this as I have a 13 year old son. You have to have Fox. Everyone with other brands feels abit hard done by. Some how the comression damping is perfect and myseriously better than everything else and they are incredibly plush

cons

1 minute after riding for 15 hours without a strip down sludge will enter the fork top seals and scar the stanchions. Sorting this out will make changing your exhaust pipe seem cheap

Based on actual experience I have some cheapo rockshox recons and they are fine. I'm sure any air Rockshox at that price will be even better...
