[Closed] Surrey Hills - What is the Tyre consensus?

Having been abroad for a few years (and ONLY using dual ply Maxxis') I realised I have lost touch with the current tyre ideals.

Rather than hang around Peaslake bus stop and look at every 140-160mm bike with wide bars I thought I'd ask you lot.

Judging by a search on the topic I feel it's time to air your feelings on the subject.

I'm currently wearing a t-shirt that says:

"I rode Nobby Nics and survived"

The Surrey Hills themselves vary quite a bit in terms of ground condition and then there is the varience in trail type XC vs trail vs jump/freeride - how will there be a consensus ?

I think you'll see pretty much every tyre there is if you hang around plus all the changes with the weather.

FWIW currently I'm on Fat Alberts and Nobby Nics have ridden HRs (because I liked them and couldn't be bothered to change them post Alps) and will give Hans Dampfs a try if/when it dries out.

+1 and the conditions vary a lot even in such a small area in my experience.

I have just changed to NNs and found it interesting (!). I thought they would be more grippy, so wonder what Ralphs are like. Out of interest, what is the background to the NN hostility (apart from getting the bl00dy things on and off)?

Black ones.

Unless you have (the rather smart IMO) NNs with the red trim. It makes them go faster. 😉

The Baron looks tempting.

I have heard that they are a PITA to get on?

Nope. Piece of cake on Synchros DS28s, Flows or Arches. They go up tubeless fine too despite not being tubeless ready.

Thanks chaps (besides the 'funny' responses)

I plumbed for the Barons. Its a fair commitment when you're looking at £40 an end!

I'll report back for searching sake when I have had a slither about with them.
