Anyone any experience of using Surly singlespeed hubs? How easy was it to get the chainline right?

Lots of experience of them - can't recall any chainline problems, would you like to be more specific?

I'm led to believe that setting them up is simply a matter of putting the chainring on the outer, putting the wheel in & getting the chain length right. Is that about the size of it, or am I missing something?

They are my SS hub of choice, I've used both the flip-flop,and disc / SS hub an' both are fine. I'm using ST tho' - so I do have the luxury of axle lengths to mess about with, but I wouldn't hesitate to use one with a 'new' crankset.

I really like them - I'm a couple of weeks off building another wheel on the disc / SS version: (but for the front this time ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ) ...

Have a disc SS one on my .29er. Very smooth. No issues with chainline, running White Ind freewheel. I too have a disc front hub ready to build onto a wheel when I can get around to it.

once its all fitted as you said just look at the chainline from behind the rear wheel and check from the rear sprocket to the front chainring and make sure its straight and inline.the only movement you have is in the front chainring.
