Has anyone ever had any success getting these rims to go up tubeless?
I tried last night with 3 layers of yellow tape and a standard stans rimstrip. Tried a folding advantage 2.1 and a wire bead HR 2.35- both way too loose, wouldn't inflate, with loads of bubbles and a decent floor pump. Tried adding an old DTswiss rimstrip under the stans strip- did at least inflate but couldn't get sealant in- I think the hole in the dtswiss strip pinched the stans strip too much.
Gonna try again with some specialised 2bliss tyres later in the week see if they are any better.
Any other tips (apart from get new rims- which might well be the best option!)
Anyone?
I've not tried with those rims, but tubeless tyres are bound to help.
The only other thing I would suggest is trying the ghetto method with a 20" BMX inner tube. Stretch the inner tube over the rim, then slit it down the middle along its length. Fit the tyre etc... There's vids on youtube to help you. This method is far easier to get a tyre to inflate with when you're using rims not designed to be run tubeless, as the innertube will spread all the way up and over the sidewall of the rim, creating a better contact with the bead of the tyre. I got a pair of Kenda Nevegals (notoriously loose tyre) to seat this way, though then sealing them was another issue again!
