Uno headset is only £20. Perfect for the dwindling budget. But are they any good? or am I better off with something else?

I brought a FSA one from On-One cost about £30 but my LBS assured me this would last a few years and so far he has been right! it does exactly what it sayes on the tin!

Just checked it was the Orbit XL2, below is a link:

Its £20 worth of headset. Not as good as others that are more expensive, but better than ones that are less expensive.

don't think much of the BBs though

Your bike will catch fire and you won't get a warranty return because you fitted it wrong (and you did fit it wrong).

Science fact.

Only £20 for the headset but how much for the rock to fit it? 😉

I bought one of the Aerozine ones (exactly the same as the S'star GTO branded ones) for £20, when they were on offer a few months back. Getting one of these means you don't have the awful SS logo on it!

I must say that I was pleasantly suprised by the build quality, split crown race, good quality angular cart bearings, etc. Fitted nice and easily, and I haven't had a problem since.

BUT do you want to put money into his pocket when he's proved to be something of a twunt? That's upto you.

what kind of thing are you looking for?

cause if your not too fussed about weight, theres only one budget headset to buy.

I quite liked the one I bought, although the anodised green colour is horrible.

I fitted it with a headset press, but I'm not an engineer so I guess it's only a matter of time before it all goes tits up.

BD - I think you're in with a chance. Seems it's the engineers & experienced mechanics that have all the trouble with this stuff.

It's truly for the common man (no offence like, I'm sure you're kwaite refined)

One thing I will say....Goodridge, OEM etc etc....do you think they use special factories exclusive to them where the staff have gold plated bathrooms etc. Heck, same factories for the main I bet. The quality is consitent yes....wear quicker possibly meaning you comeback for more high-margin stuff..

Long live the privatereers on their way up. Mags are the same, how do mags rise from nothing to become something? Not everyone is owned by IPC or Haymarket...

Haymarket is a private company Hora, still family owned and grown from one mag back in the 60's.

I've had a superstar headset on my commuter since they first did them I think. Nearly 2 years. Ridden all weathers, every day pretty much. Nothing too harshe, the odd flight of steps, lots of kerbs and potholes. It's been very good. I'd consider another one. Cartridge bearings and split crown race were a nice feature.

Had a gto on my tourer, bearings shagged after 12months to the point where the top one fell to bits on removal. The rest of it is ok though, just needs new good quality bearings.
