[Closed] Suggest me a SS commuter

I've realised that if I'm going to commute regularly I need to get a bike for it, as my hardtail's too bling to be sat outside the office for any period of time; and building management won't allow bikes inside.

I figure I'll get a single-speed, and quite fancy a nice but cheap one. A buddy suggested http://www.solebicycles.com/ as a reasonable source, and certainly they're cheaper than a Pompino, but allegedly weigh 26lbs, or a shade more than my MTB. Price is good though, especially given that I'm in N America.

Can anyone suggest a better alternative? Ta

Get one of the better Dahon folding bikes & take it inside in a bag.

I ride a Genesis day 1 for commuting and love it. I've even raced it in a Triathlon and did ok.

Get a old bike off someone that the gears and stuff are broken (something like the giant rapid i got.)
Fit a surly singleator and an on one conversion kit, maybe some nice avid v brakes.

Then you have a nice ss bike that looks crap, so will never get nicked.. 😀

I agree with gaberin. Get yourself a cheap HT from the 'bay or local classifieds, and SS it.

Or if you've got enough spares lying around the garage, build one up! That's what i did, and it's been going strong for 3 years now. Never had so much as a wash.

I've an old road bike which I turned into a fixie for just this job. Needs a service and some parts (handlebars/stem/saddle). Size 52cm.

Sensible offer + postage and it's yours.

i was riding a cannondale badboy SS, but after 3 yrs it pretty much had had enough, so last year
i got myself a Kona bandwagon from Merlin or maybe it was wiggle, as a 'bike in a box', £399 absolute bargain and well worth a commuting punt.

ourmaninthenorth - should your bike not be purchased by nicko74, I'd be very interested in buying it. I'll send you an email.

monksie - will have a scooch over the weekend.

It's this (though much dirtier and needing some TLC). Yeah, it's a Holdsworth.
