Just striking while the iron is hot (and before I disappear into a hazy four day bender of stag dos and weddings...).

Suggestion for this week to keep the Carlops massive happy (meet them somewhere between Goat Track and Castlelaw Climb):

Bonaly - Puke - Capelaw traverse - Dreghorn Red Road - Goat track descent to Glencorse - Firing Range - Castlelaw climb - Dreghorn Red Road - Upper Cox's (the bit we didn't do this week) - Shearie Knowe - Swanston - Dreghorn Junction.

I'm going to bring headlights for the final descent through town as there's plenty more singletrack to savour, however others may wish to descend on the road or finish back at Bonaly.

Any idea what time you'd be getting to Dreghorn?

Dreghorn Junction? If last week's ride is anything to go by I'd say about 8:30ish. From there we'd be splitting up to head back into town anyway I think, I'd hopefully follow the trails down through Mortonhall etc.

Well I appear to have broken my spine* shifting a few tonnes of topsoil round the garden at the weekend - hence the lovely weather ever since... Don't think I'll be in good enough shape to attend sadly, one day!

As an aside, a couple of mates and myself tend to pop to Glentress or nearby on a Friday night ~7/7.30 ish (they've got kids to put to bed first), if anyone ever fancies a ride out with us you'd be welcome - hoping to be better by then. Not wanting to create a splinter group however!

*slight exaggeration, pulled a muscle, but need to keep up the sympathy vote.

Reminder bump.

Hoping like crazy that any surface dampness dries off before tonight, still haven't got round to replacing the stock 'California-Issue' tyres on the Superfly, could be slippy!

So... Goat Track is even narrower than I remember, Cox's was a tad faster than is comfortable when the wind is behind you, and JZ appears to have been deforested which would be awesome except that in dusk conditions it means there is now no longer the 'one true line' in the bracken to follow, needs returning to in the daylight!

Thanks for coming out Gauss, hope we didn't put you off with our selection of pretty much 75% of the Pentland's most tussocky trails in one ride!

Really hoping I can make next week. If Jimmy is free (he can be my wingman) we could do a Midlothian ride starting and finishing at Flotterstone.

Hoping to be free next week - genuinely this time. Will start from town, via NZCol's spa and beer fridge to the Flotterstone with maybe some trails in between.

As MrMenmuir says, we could do a Midlothian route - easily doable with 1.5 / 2 hours of riding from / to the Flotterstone. So route would be:

Town - WoL - Bonaly - Puke Hill - Over Castlelaw and down to Flotterstone - Mauricewood - Auchendinny - Roslin - Bilson Viaduct - Roslin - Glencorse - Flotterstone....

The trails really are worth doing. Do we need a new post for each week or a general "Wednesday Knights of Pentlandia*" thread?

*Stolen from TBC marketing back in the day

Hi Jimmy,

Don't know yet, maybe a single mega-thread would be better, although best start a new one free of dates etc in the subject line.

In fact, I insist you start a new one, as I'm unfortunately going to have to sit this Wednesday out, or rather don't want to commit to showing up 8)

That route does sound good though, it's been a while since I've ridden near Roslin etc.

Looking to get out tomorrow to explore if anyone else is about? No idea where I'll be starting or where I'll be going at the mo!
