Rob, maybe our versions of fun are different? It looks good to me, nice and fast, with a few sections you have think about a bit more... I really want my new bike to be built up by then... I'm going to agree with pool, the suns gonna be out and everything. I can just tell 🙂
I'm extremely interested in these stickers though. Of I bought frame ones as well would I becom 126% faster? I could be the new Steve peat!
Andy, Jacobs is far from fast - haven't you ridden it before? It's a technical rocky challenge, but great great fun. Pinch flat central though so bring spare tubes
Looks like i'll be out on my "skills compensator" then!! 😀
looking forward to it
Up for this guys - my first STW outing.
It's actually the last ride I did in the peaks in mid-November; but it is a cracker.
See you there (Custard Soul-green decal)
Pinch flat central though so bring spare tubes
I dont get it. I cant remember the last time I had one! Try using MAXXIS tyres 😉
ooh - you've said it now!
Thats you having about 50 now you've tempted the puncture god like that!!
Gonna try and make this one, if for no other reason than to watch hoora fixing punctures 😀
24
Oh mi' lordy. 😕
I'm just hoping I'm not too slow - down and up. Where's this burger place? May make me go faster!
topangarider in the middle of the last climb towards Jacobs you will see me suddenly pickup speed and disappear* 😀
*Technically speaking either to the back to fix multiple punctures or off the front seeking burgers..
I've got this one in my diary now, so hopefully I'll be there. Looking forward to a burger this time 🙂
Anyone need a lift from Nottingham?
Simon (brown Kona - fast on the ups but slow on the downs 😉 )
Shall we actually have name badges this time? Dan was ever so prepared last time and as a result I've easily remembered his name...
No. Im still keeping a low-profile in case someone comes across and says 'arh your that chunt hora' and bops me one.
😀
Should be a nie ride this, lets hope the weather is good eh!
ow and Hora. I use Maxxis tyres, and get a fair few pitch flats, you clearly are not hardcore enough!!
"Try using MAXXIS tyres"
Do you mean wire bead maxxis tyres?
Try using maxxis 1.2mm/freeride inner tubes, they're a bit more difficult to pinchflat, though I've still managed it, with wire bead maxxis
I may be there, I may not. I'd like to come, but I'll have to see whether I can get myself there or not
Pooks got it. Your just darn-right wierd Will.
James- folding, single ply Maxxis. I tend to use Ardent on the rear (2.25) or a 2.35 Swampthing (singleply)- All tyres at 30psi and Im 100kg. I've no idea how they dont pinchflat 😕 probably wider rims? (321 mavic's).
Must be your smooth riding style 😉
Must be your smooth riding style
Doubt it. I'd readily believe its witchcraft than any sort of talent.
😆 Cheers Pook.
I'm on about my full bouncer though, all 6.5" of travel too. Never get pinch flats on the SS, mainly due to going too slow 🙁
Fair enough. I can still pinch flat my folding (2.35") HRs if I don't keep the pressure up, though they do seem a bot better than for eg folding Kendas
Right (gulp) lets see how I get on. I will STILL be on those Ardents that have shot-sidewalls as well.
well i am still coming :-).. can't wait
Hopefully the riding and views will be good enough so we don't have to spend the day discussing tyres.............
anybody going from mansfield way, or coming through that way, would appreciate a lift if i can get a pass out 😀
Can't you ride it with your epic distance coverage Adey?
i know, i'll strap my singlespeed over my back, come over on my road bike. do the ride, then have a steady pootle home all in time for tea
😆 🙄
Jacobs on your road bike 😀
now there's an idea
do think you'd be able to keep up though?
Will's done it on a Penny farthing already wearing just a jock strap and ankle bells.
looks like i'll have to ditch the jock strap idea then, maybe help shave a few grammes anyway
anyway, back to my original question
anybody going from mansfield way, or coming through that way, would appreciate a lift if i can get a pass out
adey205
I'm in Mansfield and I'm thinking of going - I think my chest infection has just about cleared up so I should be up for this.
If I have the added commitment of providing a lift for someone then I'm much more likely to make the effort.
Drop me an email.
looking forward to this now 🙂 thanks to the persuasion of bunnyhop, and lending of the bike from will for a short while, fellmarvin collected his scott cx team yesterday, as ridden by Fred Salmon in the 3 peaks last year. and for an absolute bargain considering the spec on it is better than standard. different rims and fsa k force cranks are some of the upgrades on it, but it could be lighter still if te tyres were changed. i still dont have my brake back though 🙁
Sad that I won't be seeing the new bike sambob - you and your Dad enjoy. I'm pretty sure I'll get to ride the next 'pook pootle' after this one, the last one really was great fun.
i forgot to mention the bike is a perfect size for me at the moment, unfornunately the cx season is coming to a close soon, and im not here for the bsca nationals in bakewell 🙁 not that im anygood at cyclocross i hasten to add.
Will you can take me out in your Ibiza for a spin but dear God wear some trousers. Imagine we crash and the Police find a tubby man and a younger bloke in little more than 'hot pants'..well they might jump to conclusions and inform mrshora that they dont beleive I really went out riding bikes when I said I did... 😯
did some one say pinch flats?
Pook, I've pushed/ ridden up Jacobs twice... It really didn't look that technical to me... There's only a couple of corners. We'll find out soon enough though...
Theres an answer to your pinch flat worries! Tubeless!
Sam bob, do you nerd to borrow a rear brake?
Theres an answer to your pinch flat worries! Tubeless!
yeah they just explode and take 3 times as long to fix
"answer to your pinch flat worries! Tubeless!"
It'd also take 3 times as much faff to swap tyres to suit the ride though too ? ..
Simon (brown Kona - fast on the ups but slow on the downs
AAA-HAAAA !!!!
You are my nemesis!
Pook, I've pushed/ ridden up Jacobs twice... It really didn't look that technical to me...
I've always pushed upto the second gate then I ride the rest (50%) slowly then minced down the downy bits. At the little bridge shaken my sore-wrists/arms, grinned and acted as though I was some sort of DH-god in my head 😆
Sam bob, do you nerd to borrow a rear brake?
thanks for the offer, but i should have it back by then, and i meant from the shop, and its the front one 🙁 my post was unclear though.
EDIT:i will contact if you do have a spare front one next week if its looking unlikely ill get it back before the ride.
last night's three inches of snow has gone. looking good for next week chaps.
Brilliant, riding In snow soon lost it's novelty with me... Looks like I'll be coming up on my own again as my friends lack commitment...
If anyone needs a lift from the south east area, let me know but I will be going up friday night...
Count me in for this one. I'm looking forward to trying my recently built Heckler down Rushup edge and Jacobs ladder.
Am I going to be the only one bar Pook and ourkidsam who will be riding a hardtail? 😯
I've got a spare room (in manchester, probably about 50 minutes drive from the start point) if anyone intends to drive up the night before and needs a place to kip.
Pieman, that could be good actually. It would be more comfy than the back of my van... And I may end up having to ride my scott, although I hope not.
We will have the moral high ground Hora. Got a helmet by the way. Lovely looking MET Terra.
You're going to deny all these people the sight of you in a Giro? For shame!
Am I going to be the only one bar Pook and ourkidsam who will be riding a hardtail?
No I'll be rigid as usual!
Lyons,
You'd be most welcome to stay. My email's in my profile. Just drop me a line and I'll give you my address.
Cheers pieman. I'll send one after work... And what is this 'moral highground'?
yeah andy you're right. Neither me, sam or Hora have any morals to speak of
😉
I do. I bought them on classifieds a few weeks ago (waiting for them to turn up)
Indeed, riding hardtails is one of the seven sins..Don'cha know...
you forgot me hora 🙁 on my alloy merida, so its not even springy 🙁 I STILL DONT HAVE MY FRONT BRAKE EITHER!!! arghhh. and i have sprained my finger, but it should be fine by next saturday.
Tempted, not done jacobs loop for a few months 🙂
been out today and it's very wet, all the hardpack trails are just a mess of clay 🙁 Jacobs is a nice rocky loop though so should avoid most of the mud, except for the climb upto Mam Tor and along Rushup Edge. That'll be good balance pratice
you dont need a front brake, man it up.
I'll be riding HT, got my eye on a Trance though
im the worst descender known to man. i can go uphill quite well though 🙂
hi, havent had chance to read through this whole thread yet but might be up for a ride if thats ok?
couple of questions though, what route are you doing? and, will i be able to keep up? not ridden since i had my appendix out a few weeks back and wouldnt want to slow you all down.
im going to try a bit of pedalling and stuff down the gym this week so if that goes well ill prob join in.
AndyPaice Exactly!
slowrider- what does the doctor say? Its the Kinder Circuit out of the VGraphics Dark peak book. You wont slow us down. See how you feel- personally I'd have a quick blast on something rocky this week if I was you to see how your body copes with vibration/potentially falling off?
Doctor Quack.
i dont know that one, is it any good? give us a general idea of where it goes please?
No photos but heres a description:
Kinder Circuit
A superb, ultra-challenging route with a real 'wilderness feel'. It builds up to a spectacular finale crossing a 540m high shoulder of Kinder Scout and descending Jacob's Ladder.
Route Grade: hard / extreme. Distance: 22km.
Personally I think its brilliant as its a xc route that can be both swooping, technical and offers something to those who like climbing without putting off the pushers 😀
oooh it goes down jacobs? going to try extra hard to be fit then!
slowrider- we are approaching it the steady climb way though (you CAN push. If I see anyone pushing I will automatically stay with them). Not because I'm good that way, just because I'm part lazy/unfit.
THINK YOU CAN COUNT ME IN NOW MATE, GOT THE ALL CLEAR FROM SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED 😆
not sure if i know the 'steady climb' way, is that the one with all the loose rocks with the quick down then up before the downhill proper?
steady climb goes up the back to edale cross before dropping all the way down jacobs to a burger and a pint. You're more than welcome slowrider!
:o)
and fallguy - yes, that's the route!
Same as we did on your dads birthday ride last year slowrider, but without the drop down into Hayfield (and without your mental bro buzzing my tyre!)
Would like to come along too but these "Pooks Peak(s) pootle" rides have been every three weeks so far, which happen to coincide with my daughters weekends, so what do I do stw people?
Well done for putting these together Pook (but can you please make the next one in 2 or 4 weeks time?) 🙂
twang - your wish is my command. A sunday in 2 or four weeks next
Hardtail here too.
good news! rang the lbs today, and they have had my brake ready to collect for a while and just hadn't told me, which is pretty poor in my book, one of a few things i havn't been impressed with, so im moving. good job i have 3 nearby 🙂
