Anybody fancy resurecting the London rides? I only made it to one last year, Rudeboy's westminster, city, docklands, woolwich, grenwhich, bermondsey, westminster ride but I know there were one or two others.

I'm guesing the big thaw will give some messy gloop for a few weeks so some urban pootles and social rides could be the best way to get a bit of cycling.

I've been thinking about trying my west London route again.
Meet in Richmond - out through Twickenham, the Hamptons, Eefrow, Hayes, BMX track, Southall, down the cut, pub.
There's a surprising amount of off road, will just have to check that the Feltham bridge collapse hasn't affected the route out of the pefect berms within Feltham Marshalling Yard.

This weekend is going to be very damp - how 'bout next weekend? Sunday 24th?
I'm quite happy to miss the Harp Hilly 100 - especially as its £10 entry.

Ok. I've got a route worked out - we'll go and ride it on Sunday to make sure that it's ok.
10am Sunday 24th, Richmond Bridge.
I'll try and get RB out as well.

cool

I'm working on a route for a future london pootle.....fancy the 78 mile capital ring walk by bike? Most of it is quiet roads, canal paths, park paths....so not too much cheeky action despite the 'walk' title.

That Walk London site is pretty impressive. I've bookmarked it ready for visits to the big smoke later in the year. If I was in London, I'd be with you on the 24th.

To be honest its not going to be enormously gnarly, except for the BMX track near Stockley Park - take whatever you can land safely.

petesgaff - of course, everyone welcome.

What tyres for a bmx track 😉

If people really enjoy the bmx track maybe we could do a crawl of some tracks for a future ride, I know of a track in Brokeley park near Camberwell and one in Brixton....but I'm too scared to ride 'em and show myself up!

That walk london site is fairly good isn't it. I saw the capital ring and it goes within 500 yards of my house so I think Sunday I'll head off round it and see how far i get....6 or 7 hours on the single speed should see me home again 😕

On the 'what bike' question, my hardtail will possibly still be in bits next weekend and full suss feels like overkill. But my s/s Roadrat is in full working order. Reckon that'll be good for the route you're planning?

Rode most of it today and the Cavalry Tunnel is closed due to the bridge reconstruction, and the boardwalk is the slippiest thing since Mr Slippy invented slippyness.
Feltham marshalling yard has some fun berms 'n' stuff as long as we steer clear of the scary tent city at the west end.
We'll need to motor in places to get round - bring some lights for just in case and the journey home kids.
If you're very lucky we might bring some home made Hairy Bikers samosas for on trail fud.

No need for anything more than that.
Richmond Bridge , 10.00, Sunday morning.
Oh, RB will be there (so he assures me).

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I can make it this weekend now. I haven't got a bike down here yet, and I'm waiting on somebody in Glasgow sending one down. As they still haven't done so there isn't much chance of getting it for this weekend.

It's a pity, as I could do with seeing some routes around here. But maybe next time...

this is just a pootle right? so my 'inexperienced' wife would be OK to come along? might try to encourage her onto a jump or two perhaps, wouldn't be suprised if she does better than me in fact 😆

If so, then there'll be two of us coming from Angel... how far is the route planned to be btw?

yep I'll be there.

I've got what I think is a nice route planned out for another london ride too, after trying a chunk of it at the weekend it seemed good. I'll start another thread for that ride and arrange a date.

Oh and could provide a bike if you are able to come to me, Upper Norwood.

I am a definite. Satan himself couldn't prevent me from turning up. Because on Sunday, at 10am, on Richmond Bridg, the greatest ride the world has ever seen will be undertaken by all of us.

Well, it only needs a very small critical mass of riders for a ride to turn into a faff-fest. Oh, and there's the bmx track which should remove a fair bit of skin.

Yay! Looks like I can come and MrsPP will do too I think, being as it looks more 'pootle' than 'hardcore' 😉 We'll probably both come on our commuter bikes. Are 7sp Carrras allowed?

Any chance someone could do a link to the start point? I think I know where it is, but I'd like to be sure 🙂

I'm thinking of going all out and riding the Enduro, you need 6" of travel for a London pootle, right? 😆 or maybe this is a good opportunity for the first STW outing of the 'new improved' 2-speed Frankenbike... decisions decisions... and I still have to decide what to wear!

Loved meeting some new people, thanks everyone and go Mark! 8)
Thanks for guiding Andy.
Slightly sore legs now...80k by the time I was home again 😕

Okay for the next STW london pootle I suggest 'West to East via South' - Ealing to Woolwhich via the capital ring walk, it maps at 63k so a bit of a biggy. The follow on would be East to West Via North at 59K...and then....I think you can guess what I'm thinking 😯 I'll start another thread for those though.

Thank you guys for an excellent day!

Sorry for dragging my arse a bit; the treatment this week was a little heavier than I thought, and it was all I could do not to fall asleep in the van when I got back to Richmond... Still, I think everyone was amused by my choice of 'steed'!

Look forward to the next one!

I don't suppose any of you guys mapped it on GPS? I'm really pissed with myself that I missed it and would love to find some decent off-roading places around here, at the minute the closest that I know of is the North Downs, which isn't great when you want to go out for a quick spin.

c-g, you aren't special....he asks everyone, even me 😆

mmccarthy - I've got the outward leg on gps but forgot to get the return, that was straight down the canal though so easy to map. Right err....how to get it to you though. I've never managed to get the 'send track by email' bit of memory map to do anything! if you can guide me through getting that working I can send it to you though. HOWEVER don't get your hopes up!! it wasn't 'decent off-roading' in a North Downs stylee, it was a fun social ride along quite roads, park and canal paths and the like. email me if you want it.

Neil - you're forgetting the North Shore (although technically I think it was the west shore).

Look at the Crane River Path - that's basically what we rode up, with a jaunt via Feltham Marshalling Yard and Hayes BMX track before heading back to Hanwell to The Fox for Sunday Roast.
