Utterly gutted.

Car steering packed up alarmingly between jnct 36 and 37. Limped to the lay by at the top of 37 and sat on my arse for nearly 3 hrs waiting for the AA to turn up.

Missed probably the best days cycling of the year. 😡 😈

We're under instruction not to make Dave jealous by saying it was a good ride, so my lips are sealed, apart from telling you there were 33 riders including just 4 women, one of whom fell just 200m short of the end of the off road and had to be bandaged up after cutting her knee quite badly 🙁 Excellent cake and scones were served afterwards 🙂

565 photos taken by me, and probably hundreds more by the other participants 🙂

I could probably have made Sedbergh in about 15 mins on the bike from when I broke down. Sitting there looking over the hills in the glorious sunshine was just shit. Pure shit.

Glad you had a good one lads (and lasses). Perfect weather, perfect route.
Gutted.

I realised that without pen and paper I'd never be able to identify all the riders, but here's my partial list:

Riders: Boggies: Chris M, Malcolm, Andrea, Stuart M, Andy G, Michael, John C, Simon B; Darlington contingent: Deejay, Steve, Trevor, Graham (??), Jackie + several unknown; Uncategorised: Jo, Tom, Mel, Stuart (retd), Robin (retd), Paul (Clark), Peter (singlespeed!), Ton(y), Danny, Johnnie, Faz, Dave (Donk) [25, leaving another 8 names please]

Ahh I'd be one of the other 8 then!. Grant (the Blue Intense blokey) :)... the one who got the nice 1" slice in me tyre after about 500 metres from the start!. Thanks again to all those that helped - that tyre boot did the job nicely. So I got to enjoy a fantastic day out riding some awesome terrain in a new part of the world for me.
I was also with Tom and Jo and then Dave (chuckie), Paul and Mick!!!.

Thanks again for organising the day, it was very good to meet new folk and see a few familiar faces too.

Hope Tom and Jo make it back home ok and Lancaster A&E isn't too traumatic :I... good luck.

Looking fwd to the piccies!!!.

Just got a text from Tom, He and Joe are in A & E waiting for some stitches and more than likely a tetanus jab in the bum.

I'm sure she will be Ok after a couple of days.

Cheers to you all, it was a cracker.

Bummer about the car Dave.

Healing vibes to Jo.

Deejay, yeah, it looked rubbish. Good effort but sadly not cheered me up any.

Was the next ride / venue discussed ?

Thats spooky. I was thinking about a ride from Settle over Malham moors myself. Great minds think alike (or fools seldom differ).

Simon, sorry I missed your chat on facebook, the wife was on my account.

Oh, Lowey - you could have ridden with us! We parked just up the hill at Roan Edge Quarry, and probably cycled past you. Black car, bike in boot?

I was even carrying home-made carrot cake

I'm with Tony, Simon you have had a full day!!!

but a suppose unlike Tony, most of us have been working.

Next time you have a day off Tony, do you mind not rubbing it in with a thread on here. It was hard enough going to work as it was. 🙁

News about Jo

She is out of hospital and they didn't stitch it as there wasn't enough skin left to stitch the would (ouch!). So they have dressed it and she will have to keep having the dressings changed. She also twisted it as well, so no driving or work for a bit.

Poor Tom (Guy on Orange Hustler) will have to make Tea and everything.

Serves him right, she looks after him too well IMHO.

Forum password has now arrived so I can at last say thanks to lots of people - firstly for a fantastic route on an amazing day and great company, secondly for everyone who helped me out post crash!

John - first aid and cake, Danny - inappropriate but entertaining comments, ton - fixing my grips, Marin-John - taking photos (and maybe feeding me jelly babies?), the guys who offered me schnapps and whiskey, the guys who made me tea, Faz - for not shouting at me for taking him out as well (are you ok?), the vortex crew for good banter, Tom for sitting with me in A&E for 4 hours and of course the farmer for the lift back to the car park (not that he's likely to read this, but good vibes to the gentleman).

Just a bit gutted cause the two holes in the knee are the least of my problems, think I might be out for a while with a bit of ligament trouble (only just fixed the right one that I did in the alps last summer) 👿 but fingers crossed its just bruising 😕

Oh, and can I just reassure you all that I will not be suing any of you. Not only am I a regular rider (i.e. not a novice just because I'm a girl!)but it was no fault of the ride organisers that I made a mistake on a bit of loose, fast stuff. I understand and appreciate the principle of what the other anti-mass-ride thread is saying, but I went into this ride knowing what sort of thing to expect, and surely doing a new route in the wilerness is safer with other people that have done it before than me navving it on my own?!

Anyway, great day, great photos. See you all again (hopefully) soon!

I shall be writing to the farmer to thank him 🙂

Tom for sitting with me in A&E for 4 hours

that's why I offered to bring you some reading matter as I know it often takes quite a while there! Sorry to hear you had less obvious injuries - hope they mend quickly...

Any excuse to sit at home and soak up the sun eh Joe.

How was the paella that Tom made last night?

You do realise that you could milk this for quite a while and have him wait on you hand and foot.

Thanks Simon, I'd thought of doing the same but not sure of the address. He also mentioned he was only staying in the cottage there short-term as he'd just bought a farm down the road.

Paella was good thanks, and I've got leftovers in a pot in the fridge for lunch today 😀

Actually really bored though already...can't move much!

PS If anyone objects to shots of themselves (or the captions) just email me and I'll take them down or edit as required. For those I don't have the names of you can add a comment with your name...

I object to my mugshot on account that I look like a berk (I think I had some flapjack stuck in my teeth I was trying surreptitiously to remove - nice!)
Cue a flood of "the camera never lies" comments 🙂

I like the wall pattern pic Simon, specially with the teeny tiny horses in the foreground.

Some cracking shots there Danny especially the "looking back" ones.
