Running Sram Apex on a gravel bike. The front inboard piston is stuck in the innermost position and it'll not move in or out at all whilst the outboard piston moves in and out perfectly. Any ideas on how to fix it?
My google-fu has been defeated.
Just in case
Take the pads out. use something to hold the moving pad and pump the lever. I put a cone spanner in the disc slots to do this which prevents the freely moving pad coming out too far. You might need to leave a pad in on the freely moving side. Once the freely moving side reaches the tool you re using to hold it then the other will start to move. Lube it with fluid and push it back in. repeat until it moves freely
Cheers Tjagain, spent 10 minutes fiddling and it's loads better.
Best way I’ve found, is remove the pads and fit a cable tie through the caliper and around the piston(s) you don’t want to move, then pump out the other piston(s).
But not too far! I sometimes use a bit of string dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean around the edge of a sticky piston.
I use a couple of strip's of metal and a couple of nuts and bolts to hold in the moving piston and then using a cotton bud apply brake fluid to the stuck piston seal
I've made a mini clamp thats thin enough to fit into the slot and the threaded section clamps down on the outside. Pretty invaluable for servicing 2 or 4 pots. Holds one side in allowing the other to be pumped out a bit to clean and lube.
It's not dissimilar to this, only made of a thin bar of alloy, bent and a hole drilled in, threaded and a long bolt.
The bottom section is reduced so it can clamp a single piston, and i use wooden shims to hold three allowing a single to come out. It is a bit of a fiddle i will admit, but when you get it all lined up its a great help.
