Hello all,
I have a KMC Speed Link on my Shimano 10 Speed chain and came to remove it for the first time today and it's being anything but speedy.
I've soaked the link in degreaser, cleaned it down, wiggled it round, put freeing agent on it and repeated and the thing still will only budge a little way.
I've got other bikes with speed links on them, and they've never been this difficult - anyone got any tips/tricks that will help with its removal?
Thanks, Dan
I find the 10sp harder than 9, thinking of getting a tool such as this:

I suspected as much. Was hoping there'd be a wonder solution though ๐
I've got a set of the KMC pliers and they make it much, much easier to get the bloody things apart.

Try a pair of internal circlip pliers to squeeze the rollers together.

Get a piece of old brake/gear cable and thread it through the chain on the outside of the speed link then pull it taught as if you were tying a knot.
This works for my 9 speed, both on the trail and at home when taking my chain off to clean.
You could use a bit of nylon cord/thin zip tie instead.
Not all the 'missing links' are re-usable.
Check yours here.
