If you ride up, along and down it's XC. Always will be no matter what marketing fad you fall for.
But then some XC will involve wheels never leaving the ground or hitting anything rough fast, whilst other XC will include big drops, jumps and rock gardens at DH pace. Wouldn't it be easier to create some subcategories so the former don't end up using excessively heavy components and the latter breaking stuff all the time?
