I know you can get shim kits like the raceface one to convert a std bar to an oversize when fitting an oversized stem. Is this a good idea? Are tehy worth it or even safe or should I just buy a new bar?

I've used one, no problems, and wouldn't hesitate to use one again.

Hmmm - having trouble finding ones on usual mail order comps and even if they have them none in stock? Hmmm!
