My nephew is after a road bike - he's about 5'5", so he will fit on something with full sized wheels, albeit at the small end of the range - any ideas on top tube length and other fit issues? He's looking to spend £300 of his hard-earned, so secondhand is probably the way to go.
Anyone got suggestions?

Get in contact with the club coach at one of your local cycling clubs and ask for advice there. There may well be club members with older children who have bikes which can be passed on to the new breed.
