Is there any difference between the two, or any reason to buy one over the other?

Thanks!

Stans strips seem better designed to me - they sit under the bead hook on the rim, they're a bit thicker etc. Joes strips look like bits of "pre-ghettoed" inner tube and sit in the rim overlapping the rim walls.

Used both, never had a problem with either but for some reason I feel more nervous about Joes burping. I can't quantify why - it's never happened with either but I'm a complete mincer so your mileage may vary.

Hmmm... that might be my lack of attention to fitting then. The strip seemed a little wide to sit under the bead when I installed it. Seems to work anyway, the bonus with Joe's is that the valve hole didn't need drilling.

Perhaps I should take it off and start again?

Yoikes. Don't they both use Presta valves?

Yes, but with stan's the strip is thicker at the valve so the hole in the inner skin of the rim channel needs to be drilled out to 10mm to make the strip sit flush.

It's not difficult but is a bit extra hassle making sure an sharp bits of swarf are removed. I was slightly concerned about taking a drill to my rim the first time but it's easy to do and allegedly doesn't affect the rim.

I think there's some videos on Stan's site...
