I just got a Surly Cross Check frame and was considering my build options. Was thinking of using riser bars instead of drops, and SRAM X9 or X0 shifters. I want to use them with the SRAM road cranks and mechs though, such as Rival, Force or Red, and build the bike up into a nice fast tourer. Will that work?

Yes 2011 and 2012 10spd have been desgin to be truly inter mix, think the idea behind it is you can run road shifters with the stonger MTB mech on cross bikes etc.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I think I'm going to try a 2 10 set up with X9 shifters, X9 short cage rear mech, Force or Rival crankset, and Force or Rival front mech.
