Just got home to my newly delivered bike, which has a SRAM X1 drivetrain.

First problem is I've always used shimano gears, so am a bit stumped by the shifter apparently only going one way.

The second thing is that one of the sprockets on the rear derailleur looks like it isn't correctly lined up or engaging the chain properly.

Without knowing if I'm using the shifter incorrectly, (I don't know how to shift down to the smaller sprockets on the cassette, which sounds really daft), I don't want to try and "fix" the rd sprocket which looks to be out of alignment with the chain.

Making it tricker to find out is the fact I'm getting 502 errors when I try to access the SRAM website, meaning I can't look up their manuals etc.

Any help or advice please? Thanks 🙂

Shifter is thumb up for higher gear thump forward for lower gears.

It's worth noting the jockey wheels on the derailleur have a thick/thin tooth profile, if they're not engaging it could just be the chain out of sync with the teeth.

I feel so silly for asking, but thank you 😀

Will see if knowing how the shifter works affects the potentially misaligned sprocket.

Up and down both push with the thumb. Big paddle with the "1" on for lower gear (bigger sprocket), small paddle behind for higher gear (smaller sprocket).

Its not a silly question if you havent used SRAM shifters before, and before you ask yes they should have a good clunk when using them.

Cheers frogstomp; that helped the penny drop - I did not realise the little paddle was actually a paddle (for some weird reason I thought it looked like a plastic guard or a bit to rest your finger on for leverage changing gears 😐 )

Feel daft, but also chuffed that I see how it works, thanks guys!

Actually embarrassed by my own silliness now!

I've also just switched to sram and its taken me a few rides to get use to it. I had to rotate the lever back a little to be able to shift while standing up.
