So i've got a split link to make breaking the chain a bit easier. I've installed it and now the chain frequently jumps off the lower jockey wheel.

Is this due to the split link or is it down to my indexing?

I've always had SRAM power links in Shimnao chains with no hassle.

First things to check are jockey wheel bolt tightness (working loose = cage getting a bit wider = chain coming off jockey wheel) and for a stiff link (particularly check you new powerlink is installed right and chain is free to move normally both sides of it) then check indexing (can't see how fitting a new link would affect this unless you changed somethin else too?)

Here's the story.

My chain was slipping a little on my first ride out on a suss frame from a hardtail frame. I tried to take two links out to see if that'd make a difference, it didn't so when reassembling I pit a split link in there too. Now I have problems, I might have spun the barrel adjuster, could that do this too?

tight link somewhere?

It did but it's now pivoting correctly, seems to jump off at random points.

both the jockey wheels spinning correctly?

Chain routed through the mech cage properly? (easy mistake)

Chain is routed correctly (i've made that goof before!)

I'm fairly convinced of them spinning but maybe a bit of grease in there will help.

Cheers.

Jockey wheels are spinning freely, all links are fine.

I took a link out and it's got better but in middle ring and 34T on the cassette it just won't mesh on the wheel, next position down all is mint.

I'm totally stumped.

All this taking links out made me think "I probably should get a new chain while i'm at it". One new PC-971 later, all is fixed!!

Cheers

Think the chain got a bit twisted.
