SRAM AXS T-Type Mech - just clicks?

Hi All

I've bought one of the discounted SRAM AXS (XX-SL T-Type) setups from Merlin, and am in the process of installing it, however the mech doesn't physically move when I press the button, it just clicks...

The mech is physically aligned to where position 12 would be on the cassette (smallest cog), but the app shows the mech as being in gear 1 (largest). Changing gears rapidly will show the gear position changing in the app, the mech clicks but does not move. A few seconds later the app will revert to showing gear 1 again, but no movement on the mech.

It's almost like the mech sensor has gone out of wack somehow so it believes it is in a different position to what it actually is.

I've tried powering off/on, doing the reset/recovery process. Is there anything else I can try, or is it faulty?

Thanks!

Did it update to the latest firmware when you first connected it to the app?

It's on the latest firmware, yes... I didn't upgrade it initially, but as part of the troubleshooting and recovery process...

Have you checked the limit screws? They may need adjusted...

It's T-Type so doesn't have limit screws as it's all electronical...

SRAM support replied really quickly and are suggesting it's b0rked and requires a new one based on my description 🙁

Aaaand... I've just been up to have another look and it's behaving itself now, it shifts as you would expect it to... Very weird!

it's been training you for the frustration you'll feel in the inevitable moment when you run out of battery while out riding

Weird question but you didn't have the app open on your phone whilst you are trying to make it shift did you? I had that problem with a Shimano di2 and even when I closed the app I couldn't make it work and until I manually close to the app on the phone. Even running in the background was enough to stop the mech from actually moving

It's been fitted to an ebike and is powered from the main battery, so if it runs out mid ride that'll be a minor part of my worries 😉

It was open - but you can use the app to tune it so I don't think it was that... The only thing I can think of it leaving it disconnected for half an hour or so while I logged a case with Sram support was enough to reset 'something'...
