So after just swinging off the 8mm hex bolt on my Sram cranks for the last time, I'm never wanting another set of these cranks again!
Literally stood all 16+ stone on the pedal and a 8mm hex and an old handlebar as a lever, they finally gave way after 10 mins of a workout!
The bolt is getting dangerously rounded now and I don't think it'll survive another weigh in.
Will my 12 speed Shimano SLX cranks and chain ring play ok with a Sram chain/cassette, or is it alternative cranks time?
ta,
John.
Yep, fine iirc.
(If not, aftermarket chainrings are available)
As I understand it 12 speed SRAM chains work fine on 11 speed and 12 speed SRAM / Shimano chainrings.
But 12 speed shimano chains only work on a 12 speed shimano (not 12 speed SRAM) chainring because the inner chain plates are narrower.
So, in summary - what Tom said.
That's the good news I like the hear Tom! ta 🙂
I'll give it a go with the Shimano chainring tomorrow (building a SolarisMax tonight).
If it's not ideal, a new chainring is at least cheaper than new cranks!
Thanks both!
Managed to skelp my head off the top tube when I removed mine...ended up on the floor and I'm not sure if I passed out or not...head ended up with a lump and was sore for about 4 days after...when it finally goes, it finally goes!
Oh bugger! that sounds a bit brutal.
I was trying to be really careful as this is the worst it's ever been stuck. I wouldn't mind but I had it apart and greased it all a few weeks ago!
Won't touch them anymore now, I'm done with that nonsense.
Can't wait to try it with the carbon ones on the Wife's bike...
Odd, I’ve had a few sets and never had an issue. And my arms resemble pipe cleaners…
mine been fine as well, never had an issue.
All the different Sram cranks with this fitting have been "tight", but this time was nearly welded on.
