Not that he's any less deserving but he's way too niche, same for Steve Peat. Cavendish deserves it and stands a half chance of winning.

Seve got lifetime achievement last year. There will be a tribute but he won't be overseas sports personality.

IMO Darren Clarke is a shoe in for the main prize unless either Rory wins his 2nd major @ the USPGA, or England win the RWC in which case it will be either Lewis Moody as the captain or whoever is the stand out performer in the team (Ashton, Foden, Wilko... maybe)

Overseas... Cadel Evans? has the advantage of being an aussie and therefore an english speaker (shouldn't make a difference, but does), everyone understands winning the Tour de France (more so than the Green Jersey anyway), he could be in with a shout.

Edit: Cav may have a chance, the media coverage of his green jersey win has been pretty extensive

"Darren Clarke"

I had to google him [honestly]. It turns out he plays golf. In his most prominent spell as a golfer he was ranked in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings for 43 weeks between 2000 and 2002. But he won the open this year.
