Possibly of interest to us cyclists ๐Ÿ™‚

This was on Chris Moyles this morning. I'm just looking forward to seeing Fern Cotton and Devina in lycra!

It's not really a challenge is it though?

80 hours, between 7 of them. It's 850 miles, so they've each got to do about 120 miles in 4 days. Most of them will only have three 3-hour stints, over 4 days, any vaguely fit person could manage that, and it's not beyond a lot of seriously unfit people!

They're making it out to be some hideously gruelling event on par with swimming the Channel!

If it encourages at least some of the 1/3 of the British population who are obese to get off their arses and do some exercise because their favorite celebrity is doing it and/or raises money for charity, then what's the problem in 'bigging it up'?

So they've got David Walliams, Ferne Cotton, Davina Macall, and Patrick Kielty riding bikes.

Is there any better way to reinforce the negative views of cycling in the UK than with this bunch of no-marks?

I think they must have somehow got inside my head to find the TV personalities who most annoy me and asked them to do it.

Only nursey from Count Duckula and Russell Howard are bearable.

bah humbug.

good cause though

By making cycling out to be some awful exercise which you need to have done months of training for, I doubt many fatties are going to rush to their nearest Evans store!

My point was more that previous achievements truly have been athletic feats, Walliams and the Channel, Izzard and the marathons, both very impressive. This isn't.

Is it Nursey from Count Duckula!? I didn't know that.

They just went up in my estimation.

Edit: Nanny was actually voiced by Brian Trueman it seems...

njee20 - thjink you're being a bit negative there imho - to the vast majority of people this is a big feat, to some of my neighbours driving 30 miles a day is a big feat! Anyway it is for charidee ๐Ÿ˜†

Yes I guess it's just how they're talking about it that I have an issue with, obviously it's good they're doing it rather than sitting on their arses, well, they're sitting on them, but getting fit/raising money.

I just don't see why they have to shout about how unbelievably tough it's going to be. Why not say it's a challenge that 'normal' people could undertake, because cycling's good for you blah blah blah, why the obsession with making it superhuman.

I see where you're coming from. I guess they think they harder they make it appear to the more money people will give. Raising money is the main aim, getting people interested or onto bikes would be a secondary by product I would think.

I was not aware this is how it is worked out, if thats the case anyone can do even a first time rider.

80 hours, between 7 of them. It's 850 miles, so they've each got to do about 120 miles in 4 days. Most of them will only have three 3-hour stints, over 4 days, any vaguely fit person could manage that, and it's not beyond a lot of seriously unfit people!

Yes I agree, Fearne doesn't really do it for me. I like her though, she seems 'normal'.

She's also struggling to grasp SPDs apparently!

The main thing is, they're doing it and they're doing it for a good cause.
Whether they're doing it for the right reasons or just to place themselves in the public eye is always open to speculation with 'celebrities' but who cares as long as they raise money.

To us 'cyclists' it may appear not much of a challenge but to 'non cyclists' even 3 hours in the saddle on consecutive days can be, erm, chafing ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

You can't knock it. Good cause and all that. Sure other people could do it quicker and all that, but that's not the point is it? They haven't gone out to break a record or anything. Can only courage people to dust off their cycle clips as far as I can see. And seeing ladies in lycra, well it's a win win situation all round! ๐Ÿ˜†

Fair play to them I say. It might not be the hardest challenge in the world, but at least they are doing something and it will hopefully have a positive impact and raise lots of money.

They are taking time out of their normal lives to prepare and complete the challenge, something to be commended.

Shameless plug... but I am also doing a sponsored challenge for Sport Relief. Cycling Wales end 2 end, Holyhead to Cardiff. Non-stop and solo. Not that it really matters, but I decided to do this long before the celebrity challenge was announced.

Nicely done Matt.

I think what they're doing is good. It's no Kilimanjaro but good on them for doing something. As I'm not doing anything for Sports Relief I don't think it's my place to criticise someone who has made the effort to get off their arse...

Altura?

SRAM Rival on aluminium Dolans?

Ksyrium Equipes?

I'm surprised! I'd expect Assos, Di2 on Pinarello Dogmas and Lightweights!
