[Closed] Splitting Powerlinks How?!?

I know, just squeeze the sides of the link together, push and the powerlink cleanly and simply disconnects.

Does it F*ck!

Okay so the chain had been left covered in mud and water for a week so was rusted. I used a link splitter to get the chain off the bike and even after much cleaning and luing I can't get the b@stard apart.

any tips before I sling the whole lot out into the snow?

I found they split easier on shimano chains. I used one on a sram chain and could I get it off - could I buggery (and it was a clean chain too)!

When you squeeze the two links together wiggle them side to side at the same time. I used to have the same prob until a guy a bike shop showed me how to separate them.
Never had a problem since.

Get a toothbroosh and some petrol on it, give it a bit of a brush, re-lube and try again. And MTFU. ๐Ÿ™‚

Soak it in petrol and set fire to it.

Squeeze together and flex it from side to side.

I use one all the time, but then I'm a sucker for tools.

When you've got it off, replace it with a Connex one. Much better design.

I used to struggle with them as well but i found that rather than trying to squeeze it as hard as possible a lighter touch works better,,, and yes i am still talking about powerlinks ๐Ÿ™„

Don't KMC chains have their own type of removable link?

Can you not try these. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7781

Since using these it is dead easy to remove the chain when I need to fully clean it and the chainset

So the real answer to your question is move the fridge.

This is a great thread, or it would have been a couple of days ago. I ended up hacksawing one of the blighters off, and you know, the squeezing thing really does work. Who'd have known? No more swearing at powerlinks for me.

I was going to say that they should come with instructions, but if they had I clearly wouldn't have read them.

Let's just hope when you come to open the gates for the event they're not locked with anything more complicated then a powerlink.

Shite was meant for the BBB thread.
