I've got an excuse to go to Exmoor next month, and I've been meaning to explore Dartmoor for years, can anyone tell me if the nick cotton book south west mountainbiking is worth buying or are their better or similar routes nicely saved as a gpx file somewhere these days on a website?

You missed out on one that I was selling!ย  I do have for sale though a Rough Ride Guide to the South West which features plenty of rides in Dartmoor and Exmoor.ย  Ad here:

It's not bad but look out for the revised one with OS map excerpts in it, much better than the one I have.

It's not bad but the routes mostly skirt the best bits of trail. Depending on when/where I'd be happy to show you some Dartmoor stuff.

I think you'd struggle to get a good route on Exmoor from a book tbh

Lots of fantastic riding there. This book covers lots of great riding with plenty of technical riding on offerย  https://www.roughrideguide.co.uk/Exmoor-and-Dartmoor-with-FREE-route-expansion-pack

Went to impulse buy this as I'd love to learn more Dartmoor route, however the website doesn't let you check out as guest and I dont want an account which means the impulse has gone!
