Looks like we might be heading in this direction. I don't know this part of the world at all. Any advice on where to stay (camping) and where to ride, xc or CX/road? I'm guessing it's not worth taking the DH bike.

For your Essex part

Just to the east of southend, at hadleigh, is the olympic bike park.

Eat cockels and winkles in Old Leigh

Eat oysters at West Mersea

Visit the roman castle at Colchester

Get the little ferry between Brighlingsea and St Osyth/Point Clear

Ride quick through Jaywick

Frinton is nice

Constable "country" is a little inland

Sorry read your post as if you are biking from Southend to GY

If you get to Dedham be sure to visit Hall Farm if only for the size and quality of the cakes! A frequent cake stop destination on road rides.

How set are you on Sarfend? It's a bit of a hole, and the surrounding towns/countryside is pretty nondescript, unless you're a big fan of pylons.

North Essex (north of Chelmsford) is much nicer and more scenic.

@scaredypants, death by banjo would be considered a pleasant demise! ๐Ÿ˜•

@martinhutch, how very dare you diss Sarfend and surrounding area's...Fair point about the pylons though. ๐Ÿ˜€

Interesting,I looked at something similar for a little cx adventure.
Nice one ro5ey.
I had digs in Southend ,contracting, most horrible b&bs I've ever encountered.
I moved to Westcliffe, much more civilised. I got to see DrFeelgood :-)....

Cheers guys, I hadn't noticed all the replies. Seems like good advice, I will head to North Essex and avoid the south.
