Staying near Haverthwaite next week and was wondering whether theres anything worth riding between the southern tip of Coniston, across towards Windermere? Seems to be a fair few BWs on the OS map - anything particular that'd be good to try? Or do I need to head further north towards Grizedale where I'm reasonably familiar with some of the stuff?

Cheers
Dave

For the area nothing beats Grizedale

There are some fairly decent routes you can put together from Staveley-In-Cartmel but if you have the time i'd head to Grizedale

Think there might be some tracks/a downhill style track in the woods near the YMCA spot which aint to far from you. Cant give anymore details as Ive never bothered going.

Cool - kinda what I thought as I'd never heard/read about anything much in that area. Only 15/20 minutes drive to Satterthwaite so I could do worse than the stuff from there and include the good(ish) bits of the NFT.

grab a map, cos your only 10 mins from a cracking load of cheeky trails that will take you into grizedale vis high dam if you wish. Or head south west to cartmel following the top of the ridge. Top spot to be staying!

Yep, up to a couple of hours would be spot on. Just checked the map and we're actually staying near Penny Bridge which I think is a mile or so down the road from Haverthwaite so anything round there would be top notch!

Blawith common isnt too far if you're near penny bridge. To be honest, grizedales not very far either. Or Lowick Common if you're feeling hardcore.

Where are you staying? A holiday cottage?

Not alot, you've got to be desparate to ride there. ITs been done before though. Theres a few bits of singletrack. I went over there on my road bike a couple of weeks back and saw someone had made an attempt at builidng a jump near the gate near the top.

I'd recommend travelling the extra half mile past lowick (green) to lowick bridge. Park wherever you like and head off into subberthwaite and take in the delights of blawith common - theres some fairly nice single track around there.

area between eastwaite water and lake windemere has some interesting bridleways up and down and a bit of cheeky stuff definitely worth a ride IMO used to go and play there with the dog when I lived not too far away.
