Any advice for couriering a bike box. It's a heavy bugger 28kg so I'm getting back expensive qoutes once insurance is added to cover the bikes value.
Is it just a case of suck it up due to the size or am I missing something.
I'm sure I saw a post recently on this but my searches come up with nothing.
eerrr...should've priced it up before selling (sorry!)
You could try shiply.
Royal mail now do large parcel services that might just cover a bike. Pricey though. I've sent big stuff like kayaks with Paisley Freight before. Worked well and at the time was cheap.
Yeah I guess I didn't appreciate how heavy it was gonna be. DH bike with a few extra tyres thrown in.
It's not a shiply job. It's all gone in a normal bike box but was expecting about £30.
Just wondering if anyone has sent anything similar so I can compare.
I'm not a regular seller so lesson learnt maybe
I recommend Interparcel, they supply prices from most carriers, personally I do drop of to store using UPS of Parcel Force as I trust them to deliver the goods safely.
Why is it not a Shiply job? They will bid to move it, a few days later the prices will come down. I used them once and it was about 50% of the courier cost to move a really big and bulky parcel from Germany to UK. 2 men needed to carry it.
Parcelforce48 is normally pretty reasonable, about £20 for a bike.
Sort the postage through PayPal and it's normally pretty reasonable.
It was cheaper for me to drive a 5h round trip than post a bare frame with parcel force. The weight was OK, but to insure it for the value made it massively cheaper to drive.
Might be cheaper break it into smaller parts - often two smaller parcels are cheaper than one big one - it’s all about weather it’ll fit in a standard cage or something.
Will depend I suppose on whether your buyer will accept a spilt frame etc.
How far, I made a 3hr round trip once, it will just less stressful and easier in the end.
Paisley freight in the end.
Seemed best on price/insurance.
Life lesson learnt:
Overestimate or know what your courier costs will be before charging. Kind of obvious one that now but hey ho. 🙂
This company appeared on my Facebook feed the other day, maybe an option?
I’m a tad late to the party, but if you’re anywhere near Peterborough you’d be more than welcome to put it onto our Parcelforce account.
We would pay £18 up to 30kg with a max length of 1.8meters, and insured up to £1.5k
Offers always open to anybody who may need it!

Parcelforce are good too. Save a few quid by dropping it off at your nearest depot and using a discount code.
eBay tip. Box and weigh the bike at the time of listing. Saves a load of ball ache once sold.
