As you have probably seen I have been trying to sell my Stumpjumper to fund another bike however I really haven't had much interest in it which would normally lead you to think its overpriced.
However Ive priced it against other bikes similar and think its fairly cheap still so not sure why it isn't selling ?
Bike is a 2014 Stumpjumper Evo comp with quite a few new parts however its missing its original dropper post so not sure if this is the reason?
Its in reasonable condition for its age but does have a few paint marks so not sure if this is another reason?
This isnt a thinly disguised ad in anyway Im just after genuine replies as to whether or not its overpriced etc.
Just like your other non adverts, yeah?
It's probably not the price, but the fact that it is still a fairly expensive complete bike, even if priced relatively cheaply. Very cheap bikes shift quickly and stripped down bikes with decent kit also shifts.
I would strip it if I were you.
just read your ad 🙂
It's a Large 29'er so a biggish bike for the average person, meaning market a bit more limited that a medium would be.
So how does the £995 compare with the retail cost of it in 2014 ? Looks a bit steep to me. FWIW I sold a 2015 Anthem SX on Boxing day for £975; it retailed at £1900 when it was bought 18 months ago.
I'd say your is probably worth £800, if you find someone who is after one
it was £2250 - 2500 new I believe.
Ive priced it as is due to the various new parts Ive fitted and never ridden.
Although its a large it isnt as long as some of the newer offerings out there either !
Have you tried ebay or pinkbike?
d say your is probably worth £800, if you find someone who is after one
Don't worry, he'll get the full amount In about 4 pages, from someone not on here
🙄
someone got out of bed the wrong side this morning Tom ??
Not tried Ebay yet but have pinkbike, bikeradar etc.
Had lots of offers for other longer travel bikes but nothing I am after
renton - I have had more joy selling kit on the Bike Parts for Sale FB pages recently. In fact the bike I sold the other week was sold within half a day, to someone who was quite local and picked it up same day.
FWIW I bought a large carbon Camber 29 earlier this year, complete except for wheels, brakes and cassette - paid £1000, immaculate inc, Pikes, dropper and carbon cranks.
I'm not sure yours is particularly overpriced, but ebay it starting at 99p and you'll find it's 'value'... 🙂 Or reserve it at, say £800?
FWIW, I didnt think it was over priced.
It'll soon sell on ebay.
2 things. The bits you've replaced might be new but this won't really affect the amount people will pay that much, and you've taken the dropper post off, which most people would probably like to have on a trail bike these days.
New reverb is getting on for £200, you can pay a bit more or a bit less, but that's probably what's going through people's heads when they're comparing yours against other similarly priced bikes.
THing is whoever buys that bike is goign to want a dropper. Reverb is £250 ish new so the price is actually £1250, regardless of how much they can buy one for second hand that will be in their mind.
Others are right stick it on ebay with a 99p starting bid and no reserve and it will find its market value.
I'd say your pricing is a little bit high. Pikes are now the standard fork for this type of bike, and I may be missing something, but I don't see what the wheels are.
I recently sold something similar in rolling chassis form, with a Pike and Flow EX on Pro 2 Evo, for 950. The frame was a year newer and was from a smaller, 'cooler' manufacturer (Banshee). That was a Pinkbike ad.
But as said above, your main issue may be that its a large, so less of a market perhaps.
Its not easy selling secondhand bikes these days the industry is a bit of a nightmare even though the new price was £2300 someone would have it half price 6months later so already you have lost a £1000 for you start.Love to be able to go into a car or motorbike showroom and get it half price just doesn't happen.I have given up trying to sell my bikes.
Thanks for the replies.
It came with a reverb on it but was a bit knackered so I took it off.
Wheels are specialized hubs and roval rims
I dont think its worth dropping the price to sell it as Id never have enough to buy anything as decent then.
Makes better sense to keep it.
Price might be a tiny bit high even with a working dropper.
Without one definitely over...
A lot of people see them as essential these days so you're basically asking £1100 for bit of a bread and butter bike.
That's the other issue with brands like Spesh and Trek etc buyers will always have another option as the bikes are common. You need to set yours apart either by price, spec or condition.
What's special about yours etc?
It's three years old, not great spec, no dropper and wrong time of year to sell. The fact you say the large isn't that large just reinforces that for many it's not as on trend in the long and low front as they might want. It's overpriced.
If you've not used it much/at all since buying is there any point changing?
If your happy with the new parts you've added just sell frame and forks etc and buy what you want. Bike scene were chucking these frames out and the 2015 for £500 (£599?) so again might not get what you want for it.
The fact you've tried here and other forums without a cash sale would indicate it's pricey regardless of others selling etc
Apart from the frame, fork and wheels most of it is new. Including the frame bearings.
I've been watching them on eBay and they have been selling for over 1200 no problems so I thought at 995 that should amke up for not having a dropper.
I would sell the frame separate to be honest as I want to build a 29er hard tail up.
Fair enough. Truth is if it's cheap enough it will sell so the markets dictating it.
Maybe hold it a while and try again..or sell frame seperate as you say
I would sell the frame separate to be honest as I want to build a 29er hard tail up.
Probably a wise move.
The parts are worth more to you than they are to someone else, so keep them for your next build.
FWIW I bought a large carbon Camber 29 earlier this year, complete except for wheels, brakes and cassette - paid £1000, immaculate inc, Pikes, dropper and carbon cranks.
That's the thing here... Soooooo much has changed in just a few short years. Geometry, suspension, dropper posts, 1x drivetrains etc. I'm not saying your bike isn't worth what you're advertising it for (it's always worth what somebody else is willing to pay), but you'll have a hard time finding that customer now when everybody wants a Pike fork, a Reverb, a 1x11 drivetrain and longer/lower/slacker geometry.
Strip it and sell the parts you don't want to keep, use the rest on your next bike, definitely going to be the most cost effective way of going about it.
I've looked at it every time you've listed it and think its a good looking bike but I do agree with some of the points above:
- 29er Rev not 'cool' despite the fact it might be decent. Pike/34/36 is what most are after.
- No dropper again not 'cool' as almost everyone wants one and they are still expensive to buy.
- The shorter than average large goes against what most want.
- Some folks have issues with the Spesh Wheels.
I'm sure it is a good bike and if you've seen them going at £1200 on E-Bay then I'd say get it on there as in a few months more new bikes will appear and for all intents and purposes this one will appear older again...
All we're interested in really, is has this advert worked for the OP?
OMG it's 2x10!!! £350 max 😆
If they are selling on eBay with a dropper for £1200, then you have listed pretty much eBay prices on an open free classified page. Many people will pay more on eBay as they have protection and can pay via PayPal, which means credit card etc.
I find if you are listing outside of eBay you need to take off the fees. So if you had a bike listed for a grand on eBay it's 10-15% cheaper than there. So £850 would be classified price. Plus you don't have the reverb
I really haven't had much interest in it which would normally lead you to think its overpriced.
You want too much I'm afraid. If you've listed it multiple times on multiple forums it's priced too high.
When you say "they go for x on eBay" and you're confident you could get that much they why don't you do that? After fees you'd get the £1k you want and think it's worth.
As others have said: new parts aren't new if they've been fitted. Your chainset is a double when (nearly) everyone wants a single although it's a simple enough change. No dropper though.
I think £700 maybe £800 is closer to its value.
Oh and it's a thinly veiled ad.
I saw it for sale a while ago; I thought it seemed like a good price TBH.
Now is probably the worst time to sell a bike though.
I don't know why you haven't tried ebay yet. You can spend weeks pissing about advertising on forums and the like; they're a complete waste of time these days. Just put it on ebay, 30 day buy it now or best offer. Put a high buy it now price and mention in the advert you'll do a good price for cash on collection (hence avoiding ebay fees).
Sold for 960
