Can I run a triple mtb chainset on a sonder frontier, current version?

Well funnily enough i asked this in June 2020 and the response from Sonder was...

"36T chain ring and it's unable to take a front mech. "

Can you run a bottom bracket mounted front mech? Can you still get them?

You would have to zip tie the cable to the frame.

Did think about bb mounted bottom bracket, but didn't think about cable!

I'll probably stick on a wide range 9 speed cassette to begin with then until I save up for 11 speed shifter, mech and cassette.

Ive got a 36t on mine and reckon I could go bigger.

Routing wise, if not running a dropper, there's space for the cable to exit and go around the bb shell.

Would still need to be a bottom pull bb (obvs!) Cable stop could be tricky, problem solvers might have something though

I'm fairly sure the seat tube is round so can't see that a band on mech shouldn't work. The only issues I can foresee are limited chain / tyre clearance on the small ring might limit tyre width.
Cable stops could be sorted with a clamp on cables stop.
Something like this:

If you need to change top / bottom pull on the mech then you can use a 'mechverter':

I guess my first question should really have been why?

Is it because you already have a triple and want to use it or you just really want a triple?

I would have thought the front mech would hit a tyre so you might not be able to run anything over 2 inch wide.

Already have a triple 3x9 so was looking to reuse that. Found a bb mounted front mech in the shed, but don't want to restrict tyre size too much. I've used clamp on stops in the past and they worked fine, but might give it a go 1x first of all.

I've got an appropriate sized n/w chainring I can use with a cheap wide range 9 speed cassette and see how I get on.

Have a long cage xt mech (maybe m771), will I need a wolf tooth dangly thing to make it work on an 11-42t cassette?

That mechverter looks handy, pic shows bike with two chainset tho 😂

Can you ride tandem? (Reference for the kids, that).

Modern side pull front mechs don't need a final stop on the frame. Relevant info might be of use:

But as others have said, I'd use a gear calc app to choose cassette and chainring to achieve the lowest gear you want with a 1x setup, and accept you'll lose a bit at the top end.

Advent x from chain reaction cycles will do a 11-48 10 speed cassette, shifter and derailleur £100

I’d try it. I have a medium cage road derailleur running on a 36 cassette just fine. If you do need to extend the hanger I think you can find cheap ones on eBay for a few quid
