I have Thursday off this week and a "home pass" to head off on Wednesday night to drive somewhere further afield for some different riding to the usual South Downs Way.
I have to drive back on Thursday evening after a day's riding so I reckon it needs to be not more than 4 hours from home as I have to be at work for meetings on Friday.
I'm on my own so looking for a big day out rather than monster freeride/dh stuff and the best I've managed to think of (based on some actual knowledge of riding there) is
s. wales trail centres
Brecon Beacons / Black Mountains
Peaks (probably around Edale as it's accessible and I have fond memories of riding there in my teens (WELL over a decade ago).
There MUST BE MORE CHOICE within 4 hours of Portsmouth than that!
I know it's a bit odd driving 6-8hours for a day's riding but with a young family that eats into my riding time a chance for some different riding is rare and worth the effort.
