I'm fannying around with my bike. I got a new 2md hand crank set it's a Race Face Enduro and I have it fitted to my 68mm shell.

It's like a dick in a bucket side to side.

There was a coupling small black about 10mm I fitted to the drive side but I can shoogle it about 10 mm like I want another one on the non drive side?

Does any of this make sense? Does someone have experience of these so I can be put out of my misery?

You should have 2 2.5mm spacers between the drive side bb cup and the frame and 1 on the non drive side

this might help explain things

Are you missing some spacers in the BB?

From memory 68mm threaded shell is typically 2*2.5mm drive side between frame and BB and 1*2.5mm non drive side (iirc). It's definitely 3 spacers for a Shimano external BB.

looks like a wide/super boost offering rather than boost

Ah curses, it looks like there are some spacers missing. I'm going to measure the axle. I just assumed it was a standard affair.🤦

If it turns out to be a 156mm axle it will be a Cannondale specific fitment

Yeah this is what I'm afraid of.

Looks like an 83mm axle? Rather than 73/68mm?

Could fit spacers, but you’ll probably have to space the chainring to get a sensible chainline?

Yeah don't really want to go down that road.

Can anyone suggest a 1x chainset for a 68mm shell, Cues maybe?

Shimano, Deore, SLX or XT would be my go to. If you don’t want especially short they can be had cheaply.

Assume the Cues chainring requires a cues drivetrain. Don’t know.

Cues is just standard 11 speed chains and chainrings (and works with 10 and 12 speed chainrings). Isn’t most MTB stuff made to fit 68 & 73mm? 83 is DH bikes.

Thanks to all who have entertained my wuckfittery. It's not the 156.

Help. Me. Understand.

It's 137mm but that non drive side looks like I'm missing alot of spacers. I'd rather not chase a chain line so I'm thinking 2.5mm on the drive side and pack out the non drive side with spacers seems a lot of space to fill.

Show us a picture from underneath the bike so we can see both BB cups.

Your BB bearing cups should have spacers between them and the frame.  The NDS is definitely wrong if this is a 68mm BSA shell.  That can be seen in the second photo.

I would wager that the gap on the axle showing past the BB is around 7mm.

That would be the thickness of the total of three 2.5mm spacers that a standard set of BB cups needs in a 68mm BSA threaded BB shell.

If I'm right the bearing cups need to come out, the spacers need adding when reinstalling the bearing cups.

Then reinstall the crank.

Those silver bits are where the crank sits in the cups.  This means either the axle is too long or the cups are not far enough apart. My money currently is on the latter.

Right, I've just watched the video @StuE kindly posted. I think I get in now. I need x2 2.5mm on the DS with an other 2.5mm on the NDS.

I think the black spacer which fits over the spindle on the DS and the missing spacers threw me a bit. Thats my story and Im sticking to it.

I will go back to the drawing board and hopefully report back.

@merak if you cannot find/don't have the spacers I think I've got a load in the shed.

Drop me a PM if you're stuck and I will have a look.

I once crushed one during installation so often keep the old ones when I change a BB.

Thanks to all for the advice, ridiculously large gear range now fitted and working perfectly.

No need for a bike shop or a proper mechanic or anything 🙂
