MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I shall be acquiring an Orange Med Solaris in a month or so. Which has meant a lance-like backtrack over a previously firm and unmovable position that 29ers are rubbish ;). Frame only. Will be donating the reverb from my 456 and possibly XT brakes/SLX 3x9 drivetrain/70mm stem/711 low rise bars. Or risking financial ruin by buying all new stuff.
Obviously need new wheels/forks. Looking at 100mm 15mmaxle fork probably RS. Maybe 2x10 SLX + new SLX brakes. Stan's Arch EX rims. Maybe a flatter or flat bar? What works well?
I'm sure there are loads of threads i could search but let's be honest, you're all WFH today and need a bit of distraction.... 🙂
Had mine about 5/6 weeks now
1*10 XT/Zee mix, Niner carbon fork, Superstar/Stans Flow wheelset and 700mm flat bars on mine.
Loving it, not touched my Yeti BigTop since.
I have 100 SIDs with 15mm maxle on the Yeti which i really rate.
Thanks. Saw those wheels and thought they looked excellent value. 1x10 might be a bit aspirational for the Malverns but it'd be ace if I could get away with that.
My wheels have been good but there are mixed reviews on build quality if you get a good set they are hard to beat for value.
Never ridden the Malverns so cant comment on them but I have found 1*10 fine for everything i do around Scotland from long days up the Highlands to trail centres etc think i have a 32T front and 11-36 cassette.
had mine a couple of months - bloody love it!
100mm Rebas - 2nd hand (£180)
Hope hubs/Crest rims - 2nd hand (£180)
Reverb - new 😀
Was running 1 x 10, but recently changed to 2 x 10 XT (New chainset, chain, cassette off Merlin), but sourced the rear mech and shifters 2nd hand. 2nd hand front mech has had to cut the redundent bottom pull arm off for tyre clearence.
Specialized Purgatory tyres f and r - brill alround.
70mm Superstar stem
Easton Vice 711 bars
Mud was an additional extra!

My Cotic 29er has the following:
XT 3x9 chainset, mixture of XT/X9 mechs and shifters
Hope X2 brakes with183 rotors both ends
Reba RLT 100 mm forks
The one component I splashed out on was Crossmax ST29 wheels which are very good indeed
Haven low rise 711bars on a Thomson 70mm stem
As I am based in the Malvern area, this setup has been well tried in your intended patch 🙂
Ta all. Useful info there. I shall spend the next month scouring classifieds/offers and see if I can get most of the build together.
Running mine with:
2013 RS Revs
1 x 10 Sram X0 (34T / 11-36 cassette) Pauls chain keeper
XT brakes & chainset
Hope Pro 2's on Flows / Conti MK 2 rear/Hans Dampf front (to be fitted! )
Reverb / Spoon
Easton Haven bars / Thomson stem
Nukeproof Neutron Al/Ti flats
Hope headset, bb & seatclamp
Rides sweet as a nut! - You won't be disappointed.
Hoses have been trimmed since pic 😉
Thanks Alan, what are you running the Revs at?
Well...... Currently 140 😕
Got a cartridge on order through Winstanleys to make them 120 - supposed to be in stock on or before 11th February.
Just doing local cycle path runs at the moment, so itchy to get it!
Pre-Revs was running eXotic carbons and it felt awesome! - was managing to keep up with mates on full sussers dh, so wondered if I should even bother, but hands and wrists were starting to suffer 🙁
140 a bit lively! I'd like some 100mm reba's or step down the revs crc have on offer,Thought that was internal spacers tho?
The 2013's require a full cartridge swap out at a cost of £75! 🙁
TF said they could 'modify' my cartridge, but its permenant and even more costly.
At least I will still have to the 140 one for future frame changing.......
No idea what the 2012's need.
Bare in mind that dropping travel will make the forks even stiffer 🙂 Maybe a good thing on 29"
