[Closed] Socks that don’t wear out in 6 months?

Got myself some on one socks. Great socks, really comfy, VERY cheap, but sadly wore out in less than 6 months. Probably got 20 wears from each pair I reckon.

So, I guess it’s a bit like the old bike thing cheap, light, strong - pick 2. Comfy, strong, cheap…so I’m happy to pay a bit of they last and are comfy.

Anyone got any recommendations?

And because it looks like that big hasn’t been fixed yet…I’ll reply to my post to get it live. Because it’s that important 😉

I think it’s quite personal. DHB and Defeet work well for me.

I've played the cheap but shit game, but eventually cracked and bought some (still fairly cheap) ones from Galibier, which are going strong, and very comfy.

I bought three pairs of mid-calf Helly Hansen socks, in a factory shop in 2009. I’ve probably worn them for 75% of my MTBing since then. They’re some kind of indestructible synthetic mix!

I've got socks from tesco that must be 10 years old that are still going strong. Maybe its because i have a cushy office job rather than something manly and rugged but they do the job for me no problem.

Even spendy socks doesn't guarantee good.

Morvelo....my.big toe made short work of them.

Sockguy were one ride wonders which was disappointing

Best ones Ive have are swiftwick and alpkit.

Bang for buck before wearing out soles has to be the planet X sorbitex stuff ....

Yup Morvelo one's are pretty hopeless.

I have had a pair of Burgtec socks that have finally bitten the dust after 4 years.

I’ve some Alpkit ankle socks for the bike that refuse to die. They do take forever to dry though.

Impressed with Darn Tough for walking. Tempted to try some for biking (if said Alpkits ever give up!).

Seeing as no one has mentioned Decathlon I ought to!

Got a pair of their Quechua hikinh socks which are indestructible. Not warm though. I've not yet found a wool sock that has lasted. Defeet are pretty good but the wooliness wears off on the heals and sole. Darn Tough were bloody expensive and shrunk.

The Merino Thicky ones by any chance? All went through at the heel very quickly for me.

As above, the PX synthetic socks last very well though.

Defeet WoolieBoolie or Aereators both excellent.

I do have some defeet ones as well and to be fair they’ve lasted a bit longer than on one thickies but on their way out too.

Will try and few of the suggested options and run a test 😉

I’ve got Stsnce socks snd Endura socks that have lasted years.

Make sure your shoes aren’t too small/tight and keep your toenails/claws trimmed so they don’t go through.

To be honest I’m not really a big sock destroyer. And I’m in my feet most of the day, every day.

Foot hygiene and correctly fitting shoes are the most likely reason I don’t destroy them quickly

+1 for Darn Tough which seem to be pretty much indestructible without feeling awful. Not sure if they do anything bike friendly, but if they do, yep.

^?????

Asda steel toe cap work socks. Threw all my random socks out once I'd discovered these and it's all I wear for work (whilst wearing steel toe boots) and hiking up to ~8 or 9 miles. Longer hikes and I wear two pair of thin silk socks

I wish nukeproof would bring back their socks from several years ago, the newer ones are nowhere near as good, the last bike socks I bought were troyleedesigns and lasted about 3 months at best, total garbage considering the price, I've just bought some kangol odrfresh cotton rich from sports direct 14 pairs for £14, bargain.

Long lasting socks need to be made of synthetics surely? any natural fibre will wear quickly. But natural fibres are much kinder to the feet.

They’d better be white.

Do people still buy white socks ?, surely black, coloured or stripy if they're cotton rich.

I was going to say Bridgedale Merino. Bridgedale, bridgedale, bridgedale. I've pimped them a few times on here (no affiliation) and I honestly don't understand why anyone wears any other socks, ever.

Then I saw @nobeerinthefridge say:

Bridgedale merino

So. What he said.

Best socks I've ever tried chevy, outlived the much praised woolyboolies by some distance. Paired up with a bridgedale liner sock for walking, bloody awesome, even in hot weather. Was skelping hot on the 2 munros I did yesterday, feet were great, 14 miles, not as much as a hot spot.

I destroy left hand socks as I have no large toe nail alot of the time due to previous nailbed trauma and fairly sizable Morton's toe on my left foot

So it's not fair to blame the sock but I do find some last better than others. I do find synthetic to last longer than merino et Al

The Ulvang socks that could be found cheap on eBay are the best socks I've had. All getting a bit threadbare now. Had Bridgedales in the past which were good, much better than Smartwool which wore out really quickly.

PX always PX

Never. I bought some a few years back and one is slightly baggy around the leg. More than that, they knew they were and they refused to admit it, meaning that one sock of the several pairs I own slides down slightly faster than the other. I complain about it every chance I get but no-one seems to care.

All my other PX socks are fine BTW. I think at last count about 8 pairs in different colours and materials.

But just for avoidance of doubt - DON'T BUY PX SOCKS, A LEG WAS A BIT BAGGY ONCE AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T SENT ME AN APOLOGY. OR ANY FREE STUFF.

Actually do, they're pretty good for the money, and compared to about £15 for some Le Col ones (bought to get into territory where the discount voucher worked) a bit of a no-brainer

These are the comfiest everyday/gym/hiking/cycling sock I have ever used.  They don't wear out quickly but at £10 for 3 pairs it's not like you can't replace them when they do.
