I've now sheared a 1/4" chrome socket adapter and warped an 8mm Allen head trying to remove my X-type cranks

Any ideas on something strong and solid to unbolt em? Seat post was a great idea to give better leverage but it's more force than the socket adapter would take

Plusgas, a long Allen key and a rubber mallet. The mallet is a wonderful invention, puts a lot of force through which can loosen a seized bolt - worked for me on a Race Face chainset (are they X Type?)

Got any decent tools ? They are ludicrously tight so cheapy tools wont cut it.

I removed a set last night with a 3/8s drive teng 8mm socket or a 3/8s foot long breaker bar

Take a car
A journey to LBS
A journey home
A brew
Then simply re collect
Job done
Hope this helps.

These are quite good: http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Ice-Toolz-Pedal-Hex-Wrench_37738.htm

Or a 1/2" or 3/8" socket rather than a 1/4"

Good call shredder - I'll only feel guilty tho cos I didn't do it myself

And then I'll just have to buy an expensive BB to make up for it

Lawks a mercy, what's a man to do?!

Plusgas and a better toolset might help too. Halfords or t'internet...

+1 on impact driver. Exact same thing with my mate, a few broken sockets and bruises no joy, 30 seconds with impact driver and they were off.

Old trick, try tightening before loosening ๐Ÿ’ก
Another one, using a punch inserted into cap screw hole give it a smack.

I'd had a look at impact drivers and was trying to work out the cheapest way to sort it. Likewise on 1/2" hex bits and breaker bars

Some decent stuff here tho - cheers for replies

Anti clockwise to loosen, rubber mallet if necessary.
