A quick total of - what I thought was quite a meagre spend over the last 20 years (n.b. I am a relative pauper) - reveals quite an alarming Grand Total.
(appologies for the re-itteration!)

1991: Townsend mild steel piece of poo 100
1993: Marin Eldridge Grade: 400
1994: Cannondale M1000: 750
1997: Giant MCM Team: 1200
2006: Klein Attitude, built up with odd bits from here and there: (approx) 750
2009: Kona Jake: 450, Giant Anthem build: (approx) 1100
Grand Total:4750

WTF? 😯

Add to that, spare parts, clothing etc. and you've got to be easily over the 6 grand mark. Incredible how it all creeps up.

I'm quite sure someone else can do far better though.. 😉

I spend less on bikes each year than the cost of depreciation on my car 🙁

It's not the bikes though it it, I have spent around £1400 on the bikes themselves in 2 years, but you can add at least £1000 on for components and spares etc.

I'm not adding it up as it be a scary amount. Though I do seem to spend hell of a lot less as I get older.

I once went through my history on CRC & Wiggle, and over an 18 month period that also included an Obed frame & a complete Pompino i managed to spunk away £6K. Truly stupid.

And now I'm going to work out what I sold them all for....:)

Raleigh USA Technium Chill - NICKED £0
Kona Cindercone HEAVILY UPGRADED £500
Heavy Tools Ruler - £220
Kona Hei-Hei - £300 (Parts, frame cracked)
Spesh Stumpy FSR - £350 for frame, £150 for some of the parts eventually
Yeti 575 £1300
Sanderson Breath £0 Written off
853 Inbred - Still got
Saracen Helix commuter £130, but it saved me £500+ in fuel
SS Inbred £500 for 85% of the bike, could have got another £100
Used Roadrat - Still got
Spesh Pitch - Still got

I got £3550 back, so current outlay is £6210.

That's interesting, actually. Thanks for posting this thread. 🙂

Sadly we have an 'total account turnover' function at work, so I can see exactly what's been put through my bike shop account in the last 9 years. Admittedly a lot of the stuff I've bought I've then sold for what I paid for it, so there's a sort of perpetual turnover thing going on, but the bottom line figure is terrifying.

More than enough to buy a brand new Porsche Cayenne, with change for a small runabout too.

I only ever bought 1 full bike.. 04 Stumpjumper FSR £1300.. everything else has evlolved, morphed into 2 bikes, bits here pieces there, 1 bike got stolen.. the rear mech is still on my bike that came with the Stumpy.. Just going to change that now.

So is my scandal still really a stumpjumper at heart?

been biking for over 20 years and have owned way over 100 bikes in that time so there's no way I'm adding it all up but current bikes (7) and biking kit would total well over 15k and have prob spent 3 or 4 times that over the years but who's counting? to put it into perspective I've spent way more on drink n drugs and with **** all to show for it (well.. nothing material anyway)

A lot and I don't want to think about it all really
Bikes:
Scott mtb £750
Marin mount vision £1200
Trek 2200 Road bike £1200
Cannondale R3000 Road bike £1800 (bargain!)
Cannondale Jekyll (2nd hand) £400
Inbred £500 ish
Cervelo R3SL £3700
Salsla Mamasita £1500
Pimpino £600 (I think)
Road rat £500 ish
Cervelo soloist (built with bits off C'dale) £600
Grand total of £13500 ignoring clothes, shoes, wheels etc. I have sold some of them and 2 were bought by the insurance company so the net is probably about £8000... 😐

I think you'd be shocked at the 'bits' though, that seems to add up to far more than the bikes (in my case at least).
