Two weeks ago I booked a test ride of an ibis mojo sl as I am quite fancying an slr when it's released, booked the test ride, drove 45mins today with my kit, paid for a days parking, went into shop, hi, here to test the mojo sl.... Oh, have you booked? Yes I confirmed on the phone two weeks ago. Ah, afraid it's not in the calendar and somebody else has it out. Not due back till later in the day.

I only get every other fortnight weekends to ride and have the cash to place an order, their loss but what muppets.

Aaaarrggghhh.

Rant over, and breathe.

Thankfully the nice man, Jay, at moose cycles had a spare mojo so at least somebody helped and I know where my cash will go if I place an order.

I would always phone a couple of days before the event to confirm everything's still cushtie.

I bought my mojo hd from moose cycles, they were great to deal with, so I don't think you'll have any issues with them

I would have contacted them again yesterday to make sure the bike was still available for you today, to save any embarrassment having to drive that far. 🙁

Allthepies- if a shop tells you on the phone it's confirmed you shouldn't need to! And in hind sight of course you're right, I should have called them, but really I shouldn't need to if they've already confirmed.

Allthepies- ahhh hindsight would be a wonderful thing.

Standard practice when booking things like that which involve me having to travel / put myself out etc.

I'm working in a bike shop to support my degree at the moment, and we make mistakes too. Staff a shop with humans and they'll err. There is no other sort of staff available.

(Apart from Chain Reactions box creating robot, that wastes copious amounts of cardboard.......but I digress........)

its great isn't it. I like how about 15 people walk the floor doing nothing but anything you want to buy is hidden in the workshop and you have to stop someone working on a bike to get the part you need

Absolutely, why would you bother ordering something from CRC from the comfort of your home and have it delivered? I much prefer to go to a bike shop and stand there like a complete pillock while the staff ignore me and then patronise me when I dare to approach them?

Wade - sure I get you, but the shop just lost a buyer who is ready to buy a bike that will retail circa 5k... If I owned a shop I'd make sure that was business I had a fighting chance of, I just despair that customer service is so crappola.

Oops, thought my rant was over.

Beat this.
Live in a small town, we have a specialized dealer.
You walk into the shop. He glances at you as you approach. If in his opinion you are not going to spend four figures he goes back to cruising his Macbook on the counter. Eventually he will without averting his gaze from the Macbook ask what you want.
I have told sooo many people not to use his shop. Use the little bike shop round the corner run by nice people, may not have lots of shiny stuff or a showroom with hardwood flooring but he is reasonable with charges and shock--- helpful.

No Lincolnshire. But his behaviour maybe the result of franchised Specialized customer care training? or he is a NOB.

I phoned my LBS for a service kit for my brakes pretty much as they were closing on Thursday, and the stuff arrived Saturday morning, with my LBS picking up the postage!

Bless em - that's why I keep going there.

😛

I test rode 2 bikes from Head for the Hills in Dorking - they built my wheels and supplied a few bits and pieces. Can't say enough good things about them - they are fantastic.. incredibly knowledgable, super helpful and go the extra mile!!

I had a demo on a mojo last year, loved it, but the shop repeatedly failed to email me the pricing info I requested. They took so long I talked myself out of buying it. But to be fair, Llandegla is busy they probably don't need the extra £4k in the till....

I would have rung before making a journey but that's because I'm tight and wouldn't risk travelling too far. Been trying to help a colleague find a new road bike and visited most bike shops within an hour of Portsmouth and the shops have all been pretty good be fair although only one offered a deal for bike and kit where the others didn't budge on RRPs

not just bike shops that are crap, importers/distributors are just as bad, 4 months to sort a wheel out under warranty is shocking!

I've ended up only using two on Tyneside due to the rest offering naff service.

Whiptail offers a friendly service and M Steel of gosforth are a spesh concept store staffed by good people.

My nearest bike shop is very good.

They sold me a half-price Giant TCR road bike a few weeks ago.

Today I went in for some spoke nipples, then later some spokes, and then later still some more spokes and nipples. Never once looked at me like I was clueless (which I would probably deserve), always cheerful and helpful, even though I only spent about £5 in total.

cant reccomend my local...ish bike shop enough..sure, it helps if you know people that work there but still.

Pitsford Cycles will get my money over any other shop..couldnt be more helpful.

Touché - the shop I had a bad experience with is listed by somebody else as being good... Don't you love the world.
