Snapped my 11sp Sra...

[Closed] Snapped my 11sp Sram rear mech, looked at prices, went xtr, no brainer.

Why would anyone ever have XX1, X01 or even X1 when XTR is significantly cheaper or equivalently priced (shifter/mech)?

X1 or xtr, similar price for rear mechs, xtr shifter is a little more expensive, its a no brainer that XTR wins.

XTR vs X01 or XX1, XTR is a fair chunk cheaper, you know XTR is going to be as good or better than either, again no brainer.

This rant(ish) started because i smashed my x01 rear mech. I learnt -

1. You cannot purchase a sram outer plate, if this goes, gotta buy a whole mech.
2. Even a X1 rear mech is £113 min, like for like would have been £150+.
3. The sram mechs are full of little gimmicks such as the cable routing, cable pulley which make them super sensitive to cable setup.
4. No shops in a good 20+ mile radius of me carry sram 11sp mechs in stock.
5. Replaced with xtr, works so much better
6. XTR took all of 10 mins to fit and setup, working perfectly with a 10-42 casstte, even being brutal with the shifts under power is still better than the the sram under average conditions.
7. I can easily get inner and outer plates for the xtr if i trash it

I even quite liked the sram setup, if a little precious, but this xtr is something different.

Cool story, ay. 😐

I can see a LOT of people doing the SRAM cassette and 11sp xt combo.

Yep, when I finally move away from 9 speed, I'm thinking seam cassette, shimano shifting. Either that or 2 x 11 di2. I don't see the front mechanism as such a bad thing.

The x01/xx1 mechs appear to rebuildable, yet fishers/SRAM elect not to make the parts available. With 11speed xt imminent, SRAM will have to reconsider their pricing, as they will be uncompetitive.

SRAM price up the components for after market to make the OE specs seem like really good value.

The shifting on X01 is simply sublime. I'd need convincing to go shimano.

I upgraded to 11 speed recently. Went from sram 10 speed to shimano xtr and sram cassette purely because of cost. The xtr clutch is much stronger and the shifting is savage! Definitely the way to go 11 speed

I know that Shimano's 1x11 XT has just Ben released and by comparison is way less costly than Sram.

However, I'd ordered my new bike a few weeks back. The standard spec was 1 x 11sram. Replacement cost of drivetrain bits really put me off.

I ride locally year round and in winter our trails are a mud bath. Despite best efforts to ride higher ground and the better draining routes, I know that annually I'm in for at least one cassette and probably two chains.
Coming from a 3x9 set up , I had 2x10 XT fitted to the new bike from the off.
I-spec means my bars aren't cluttered.
What's not to like ?

Well you didn't try it and it's been done to death in loads of other threads.

The current feel of my XT setup isn't tempting me away from SRAM really.

Surprised shimano didnt release an XD XTR casette and a normal XT. The normal cassette does seem a bit of compromise Pandering to fasion without the 10t.

Did read something recently predicting xtr 12 speed di2 only in 2018. Add a cog of 45 or 46 and get the same range as sram.

Pure speculation but interesting all the same.

recently went from Sram X-0 10 speed to Shimano XT 10 speed, both as 1 x 10

The shimano feels much better in use, and the build quality is considerably better.

The Shimano XT was incredibly cheap, compared to Sram.

I should imagine sram have some heavy patents on that, also it seems that a big part of the appeal of the shimano stuff is not requiring new other stuff for people retro fitting.

Sram GX seems to be a sensible price.

£115 for a 10-42 cassette
Rear mech and shifter are a good price as well.

@deanfbm:
Just for clarity, did you simply replace rear mech? You mated a X01 shifter to the XTR dérailleur?

Sram 11 speed best shifting I've experienced under power or not

Still want to try the shimano levers before I go all 11-ey just in case they're as orrible as 10-speed XTR, but on paper it's a winner isn't it.

Remember SRAM's entire price strategy to date has been about maximising profit from each level of adaptor while there's no competition. So quite intentionally there's been no real pricecutting and the only price level changes have come once they felt they'd run out of new market for the previous cheapest version. So, it could be we'll see some changes to how they position all their 11-speed now that there's some rivalry.

I got quite excited when I saw Shinano releasing XT 11 speed but then I remembered how much I hate the current XT's shift action and this supposed to be lighter.

But their clutch mechs are so much better than SRAM and is the reason why both bikes are now on Zee mechs with Saibt shifters. I do miss my X0 shifters though...they were precise and clunky and a much nicer shape than Shinano's. The adjustable triggers were nice too.

11 speed XTR have a light action but with a much more defined click for each indexed position. XT follows this direction as far as I've heard.

OP are you using the X01 shifter or have you put an XTR shifter on too?

Can some one please clarify if a SRAM 11 speed cassette runs Ok with a Shimano XTR 11 speed rear mech & shifter? this may of been asked before on other threads but I'm considering swapping out my XO1.

Ta,

My bike has a real tendency to throw the xchain so going from the OEM x9 mech to a zee with its stronger clutch has bee brillant
And the x9 had so much play in n every pivot it was gohst shifting all over the place in under a year
I remember why I prefer shimano, even if the x9 shifters were a bit more intuitive

SRAM means OEM to me. Its not bad stuff and it works but its not a patch on Shimano and now you can get the Japanese Shimano kit (SLX and upwards) cheap online there's absolutely no reason for me to ever buy SRAM.

I haven't tried the latest Shimano kit, but when I changed to SRAM 6 or so years ago everything worked better than my Shimano had ever done, and continued to do so ever since. XX1 on my current bike has been faultless so far. How better can it get than silent performance and perfect shifting??
