Just a quick question I was out riding this morning and snapped a chain. (first time ever for me) whets the consensus is it best to completely replace the chain or should it be ok to carry on using the repaired chain its a Shimano 2008 XT with about 400 miles on it. And any ideas what could have caused it on what it think is a fairly new chain?

for me, its a quick check to see if any other links are twisted then fit a power link then forget about it.

My chain is probably more powerlinks than original chain, so reckon you will be ok.

any ideas whats caused it? I was on the power at the time. and am a little heavy when it comes to gear changing. would this be the reason?

You got it too much pressure on a downshift, its the only time I have snapped chains.
