We're driving over from Bristol, I was thinking of driving up the Rhondda valley and parking somewhere past Treherbert, then getting onto the trail near the On The Edge section. That way the cafe is half way around and the drive might be bit quicker (though not sure).
Anyone else done this or used other places to start. It looks easy enough to find the trail from the A4061
I gather the crossroads at the junction for the long route/shortcut is not far from the Hirwaun road, so would probably be a good place to start.
It would be worth checking what parts of Skyline are shut as you may end up on a part that's closed. Do a search on here as there was a thread about this a couple of days ago at this. Sorry, on my phone so hard to search for you...

Looks like my alternative starting point is going to be Tal y Bont so I can ride the Gap instead.
