Hello all,

I have a mk1 puffin and I think it's a great machine, one of Sam's finest, if not his best.

Just wondered if anyone has ridden both a mk1 and a mk2? I understand the chain stays are slightly longer on the mk2, but I think the short chain stays are what makes it such a blast to ride.

Thanks,

Sam.

Hi there, another mk1 owner here.

The only difference between the mk1 and mk2 is 10mm longer chainstays so as to make it 29+ compatible.

Of course, it didn't stop me from riding the mk1 in 29+ mode ๐Ÿ™‚
It's narrow, but it works.

Great looking bike,ย akkwlsk.

Can I ask what size frame that is and what are the tyres you're running?

Cheers.

God, you had to wait so long, sorry! I haven't sorted out notifications on this forum yet.

XL and Chronicle front / Bomboloni rear. Chronicle is proper 3" and it's very tight on the rear (lots of clearance front), but a litlle bit of file-job would make it work. Bomboloni fits with ~5mm from the bottom-bracket shelf thing since it's slightly undersized.

Those are mounted on proper 50mm plus rims.

I don't think the notifications do anything but count up - there's no link to the thread.

Thanks for the reply! I'm thinking of going b+ rear and 29+ front.

Definitely go for it, my favourite setup (reg. geometry) is 2.4 Ardent rear and 3.0 Chronicle front. It slackens the HTA a bit and keeps the BB on a reasonable height. I assume the B+ wheel has similar diameter to regular 29er,
