A curious question; why is it commonplace to see 32:16 ather than say 22:11?

chain wrap.and last longer.some weight weenies have been known to run 22/11. tho.......

You could not get good screw on single freewheels with less than 16 t
Just don't see many people Useing screw on hubs anymore

That's my take anyway

32T ring also more versatile, for a 1xX for example.

32t was the smallest ring you can get on 104mm BCD cranks; there are some 30t offset rings available now.

Also St Sheldon implies that the smaller sprockets are associated with faster chain wear.
