Got a 36t chainring+ chain guide
8 speed cassette which now has 30t largest sprocket
Still struggling up the hills a bit- should I go to 34t front ring or just go bigger on cassette?
Its a Charge Blender with 2.5 rear Big Earl Tyre
Riding at carron valley today and had to push some bits (cue unfit bugger jokes- I know!)
Was gonna try a 32t as that would mean not buying a 34t but chain device only takes a 34t.
Do I just stick with it and get fitter or do I change- cassette or chainring?
Whats your set up???

If you go with a larger casette you will have a lower gear for climbing but will not lose your top gear for when you want speed !

So my option would be change casette not chainring first.

Which is most important ? Top speed or climbing ability ?

I've riden the whole of Afan on a 38 with an 11-32 no worries. Don't think I even used the 32. So I'd go with stick with it and MTFU.

At the moment its deffo the hills I need to get up, the downs are good but I am not near spinning out so can lose a gear down there in exchange for climbing ability

I am coming off the back of 6" fs so thought the big tyre would help- it maybe is a bit overkill, but its quite light for its size.
Bike came with a Kenda small block 8 on it but in local woods its useless as its a bit of a mudfest in there

Why the hell are you running a 2.5 DH tyre on the back? Thats pointless and its tyre not made for climbing.

I run 34 and an 11-34T and get round everywhere ok and I have skinny legs, and thats on a big full suss.

Stick an 11-34 on there.
And for lose the daft tyre.
A 2.1 DTC Nevegal rolls nicely. Tried a 2.35 on my SS but found it too draggy.
