I've accepted a job in Singapore and don't know if I should:

a) take the mountain bike
b) take the road bike (which I only ever commute on)
c) take both
d) take none!

If I take the mountain bike I'm not in love with the idea of cycling it 10 miles from wherever I live to the big park in the middle. Is there some other way of getting there with it (I won't have a car)? And once there is it worth it?

Road only, I'd say, join the early morning chain gangs. As in very early!

You cand ride MTB there, but not as much. Worth seeing if Ben, of this parish, is around. Believe he's still out there.

I spend a lot of time there, but never ridden.

However, apropos of nothing, some other tips

Din Tai Fung, Raffles Plaza. Go. Eat.
Brotzeit, upstairs from the above. Great beer and people watching spot.
Hometown, Smith Street. Superb and cheap food
Once upon a milkshake, Tanjong Pagar. It's really that good.
Maxwell Hawker. Nom nom nom.
I could go on!

Oh, and don't take a special taxi. Nothing special about a Chrysler!

I'd actually quite happily move to Singapore. Really easy place to be, you know, apart from the infernal heat

Lots of great places to ride within a short flight. Worth taking the mountain bike for a long weekend away. I wouldn't fancy riding round town, traffic is crazy, public transport is OK.

Just looked up a few of those - Din Tai Fung might have to wait as I'll be working for a start-up.

The hawker food halls though are one of the things I'm most looking forward to ๐Ÿ™‚

DTF is pretty cheap. Think of it as almost Michelin star quality fast food!

More than happy to share any more tips you may need, and/or a beer or three next time I'm over there.

I think when I was there for work a couple of months ago I ate there twice and it probably cost me less than 20 quid each time

It'll be a new world for me. Not been to the far east before so all advice gratefully received.

OK, more will follow, but.....

Think of the East as academic qualifications

Singapore and Hong Kong are A levels
Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo are a degree
Beyond that, it's a postgraduate

Singapore is easy Asia.
