What's good & what is best to avoid?
Currently got a normal bontrager one which is fine but due to space issues it's tricky to get bottle in and out while moving.
Are side loading ones less reliable at holding bottles than normal ones?
I have a Specialized Zee as recommend a fair bit on here. Two rides in and seems excellent.
Specialized Zee on both bikes, never lost a bottle.

Anyone run one upside down? New bike has under top tube bottle mounts and I wonder if a bottle will hold?!

I use a zee cage upside down, it's brilliant. If you grab with your right hand, order a LH cage.

Yes, mine was upside down for a bit, no issues.
Same as goodgrief. Zee upside down has worked perfectly for years now, after getting through a few shit cages in the past.
Zee has been ordered, got a RH cage as I thought that was correct for right hand grab, but no problem if not. Cheers all.
Another zee advantage is being plastic you can dremel longer slots if frame has tight clearance. I've cased plenty of jumps and not lost a bottle yet!
Turn a zee upside down, it's still a zee like, innit? Another fan here, the one time mine sometimes loses a bottle is taking the bike down from an uplift trailer, but then, if you ever do bounce your bike off the rear wheel in that way on the trail, losing your water bottle is likely to be the least of your worries.
not the lezyne flow SL, it's rubbish, which is odd given that the regular ones are ace.

Has anyone tried a Bottle Roll Cage? For a quid or 2 more you can adjust the angle of entry/release so potential cables don't get in the way
Any real world reports?
Thegingerone is correct, the Arundel cage is very very good indeed. It's also very very expensive but I've ne er dropped a bottle out if either of mine.
