Very nice. Why not the rest of the XX groupset?

Have you seen how much the cassettes are?? I've got 4 pair of wheels with diff tyres etc. also got other bikes all with 9 speed and wanted interchangeability between bikes without faffing.

Frame is BB30 so XX seemed logical choice for the weight saving although the BB's are crap.

Sadly I have, and I'm fairly sure the combination of Margam and the Gorrick Enduro has trashed mine!

Indeed, at the time of order XX was the only 10s group, may change next year now others are joining in.

Definitely, particularly with XT 10 speed cassettes retailing for £60, far easier to stomach! I can't see me getting another XX one! Frankly I wouldn't have bothered this time if the bike hadn't come with it!

It weighs about 20lb's.

Not ridden it yet! I've only had it for 2 weeks but broke my collar bone 3 weeks ago and not been on a bike since! Took 10 weeks from ordering to be delivered, hopefully be able to ride it in a couple of weeks time.

Best send it over here then so it can be ridden, how it should be ridden. 😉

Recover soon and enjoy it, you will enjoy it.

I love that Whyte but several bikes here are droolworthy.

My Stumpy is perfect for me (light but still strong) and if I told my wife or family how much it's actually cost (£1200 bike, not far off £1000 on upgrades) I'd be in deep trouble - yet most of the bikes pictured are MUCH more!

Think I'd better remain at my "quite high end" level rather than "top end" or things could get silly!

Couple of questions on 2x9 while people are commenting;
•If you use a Triple Chain set do you use middle & inner or middle & outer.

•Do you change the chain line at all i.e. move the spacers on the BB?

•Where is the best place to get chain rings for XT chainsets (28/42)?

Ta

I decided to fit a chainset (XTR) and brakes (Hayes stroker carbon) slightly more in keeping:

Still only 22.4lbs though, but it's my lightest bike by a good 2.5lbs now.

For XC and the road.

Bars changed on the Cube now for Easton carbons and Captian's for the rubber and going tubless at the weekend.

Here's mine, might switch to 2x9 as the granny gets no use and SRAM don't do 10 spd twist shifters

Inner and middle

•Do you change the chain line at all i.e. move the spacers on the BB?

Not necessary, because you're using the inner/middle positions, so the chain line is much better anyway.

•Where is the best place to get chain rings for XT chainsets (28/42)?

TA Chinook rings are the best, but are out of stock across the UK at the moment apparently! Starbike in Germany have stock of all the sensible sizes. You will also need some short bolts for the outer ring.

I think the Orbea is winning so far, if only as the only XX equipped bike! Needs some lighter wheels though.

Inner and middle, use short chain ring bolts and choose chain ring size to taste, I currently have 40T and 26T.

No you don't. You need stronger legs, like English XC racers 🙂

What is it with 2 X 9/10?
I bought some FSA carbon 2X9 things with a ceramic BB, & its no (maybe a few grams)lighter than my old RS7's with a Ti BB & hardcote rings, I don't get it 😐

love the detail on that enigma timdrayton although 2 things puzzle me after what you've spent to make it lightweight

1/ braided hose on the rear when if anything it should be the front and
2/ single ring chainset. Surely a light bike like that needs at least a 2 ring chainset to get the most out of it

Apart from that ( and pink valve caps?) lovely bike

I aggree, to be honest i ran out of cash.... new brakes are on the wanted list (the hopes are getting a bit tired, and i had them lying about when i built it....)

I have a wide ratio cassette and the only time i have missed a granny was cannock the other month, otherwise I lost about a pound in weight by dropping the rings and shifter cable etc.

pink??? me camera makes the red hope stuff look pinky i spose, reds the new black dont you know 🙂
