[Hijack On]

How do you find the steering on the XTC's, is it steer with your eyebrows quick or fairly easy going for whats essentially a hardcore race hardtail ?

[Hijack Off]

I dont really understand the question! The steering is fine, a lot more agile since I fitted the new wheels and tyres, was thinking about trimming the handlebars down a bit to make it a bit more responsive.

Its got a steep head angle which means it will turn in very quickly and could be a little bit nervous in descent, if you dont understand then you cant answer the question so no panic !!

Do you mean the angle of the stem, or the top tube? the first pic looks a bit odd to me, it was taken from low down and it doesnt really look like that, Ill try and post an update.

After buying the frame I built this little beauty myself and all for approx £400 using a lot of spare parts I had knocking around.

@ ackie
It's a 2009 frame only build, with a mix of new and old it came in at under a grand.
XTC frame, Fox R100L, Crossrides, XT/XTR mix, Thomson etc.

Try chamberlaines in the Kentish Town road, I know the guy that runs the place. He'll know me as oldgit as well.

Mrs LMT's bike, its a superb bike 07 model, was brought on a whim yep a £1k! whim while we were in scotland at Fort William, previous to this she had a Saracen Xray so this was a major upgrade.

Bike is fast as hell and stupidly quick on corners and jumps, so quick it nearly killed me off! had my first big accident on this, face plant the ground, serious concussion for ages, anyhow here is the bike:

Im 5'8" and hd loads of XTCs I used to ride a small as that was what the guides recomended, however a medium is a far better fit.
That's a 2009 and I think they slackened the head angle and made them 100mm corrrected for the first time that year. My previous one was deffo for 80mm.
One thing I like about Giants is the quality and light weight of their frames even on the most basic models.
I also feel uncomfortable with niche brands, and Ilike the inverted snobbery of bikes like Giants.
I remember my first cross race this season at Blenhiem Palace. I was late getting there and saw loads of stunning bling cross bikes on the line, so I thought this must be my race, Wrong! these were novices. The main senior event was heaving with Giant cross bikes, I think there was three in the top five. Ilike that.

Nice Thread!

I will certainly join in 🙂

Mine is Large. I'm 6ft 3" and it does fit fine, I do like a lot of post though... Only thing which lets mine down at present are the heavy wheels, which will soon be replaced.

I have a Escape M1 hybrid, bought recently for £80! Apparently the frame is an XTC specced one. Does this count? Its a proper stealth 'rat-bike'...

I've done pretty well out of mine over the years, probably replacing it with a Soul in the near future though (wheels and a couple of other bits already swapped out in readiness). Pic is from one of my favourite rides on it (bottom of Cut Gate).

[img] [/img]

Oh, and re. the steering - it feels fine with 105mm Bombers, as long as you remember to lock them down on sharp climbs. Also, don't run them too soft or things get a bit steep when compressed on slow stuff.

2006 XTC SX, now my winter hackbike (shame I can't ride it but that's another story).

About half of my bikes have been Giants in the 20 years I've been riding and I always end up going back to them. Ride quality and VFM they rock.

Other bike is an Anthem. Love it!

+1 for that! Current main bikes are a Giant and a Spesh. VFM and ride quality, second to none. Niche-stroking-Willy-waving-look at me status, do I care?

LOL, it was built from bits I already had so it was a bit of a mish mash.
However, it rides so well it's staying that way.

I only like flats on my MTB's for some reason , never got used to riding clipped in when off road.
ah well 🙂 shit happens
