As per the title, if you needed a bike for riding in casual clothes and carrying stuff, but still wanted to look like you like bikes, what would you buy?

SSshep has the nicest pub bike here I think.

Quite pleased with this try-out 'shopper' build, a SS CX frame and an Alpkit bag. Fun to ride into town via the towpath or trails when it's not a bog, carries back milk / eggs / bottles of Leffe etc safely.

Don't have one, but get a recurring desire.

Does trips to the shops, town, work, nursery runs...

[img] [/img]

Dunno if it looks like I like bikes. I think if you like bikes then it probably does.

but i really want of these...

The Vitus Vee 29 bikes are nice and good value. Consider one of those too

It's done a few canal commutes (if I'm not in a hurry), but a bit useless otherwise tbh.

my town bike in shopping mode....

[img] [/img]

fat tyre up front to take the sting out a little. bash guard saves my trousers getting mangled. serves me well.... drunken rides home (including crashes), day trips to the lake, carries everything needed for a BBQ down on the river.... and yes, that is a case of Augustiner 🙂

Is what I have for round town, cost me £100 in the classifieds so I'm happy to lock it up around town.

Old pic, but the Big Dummy has class, majesty and room for a passenger.

I'm soon to be without my Yuba Mundo, as I just wasn't using it so it's been sold to a worth cause to complement their green version.

I'm going to use the cash to convert my Solitude from fugly fixed monstercross to (probably still fugly) gentleman's town bike. I'm thinking: reasonably large-volume tyres with full mudguards; flipped Mary bar; chainguard; Brooks.

Suggestions for suitable tyres and guards?

Like the well endowed Big Dummy up there, I too prize the size of my contraption....

Robh, it's the original production sample Genesis Day One. Think this is the 5th different set-up I've had on the same F+F.

Suggestions for suitable tyres and guards?
Conti Contacts of one type or another? Or Marathon Mondials for more mix-terrain stuff. The Onza 32C city tyres on my Day One are pretty good. SKS guards?

And I recognise that Quadangle up there..

@miketually - that's a sad loss of fleet.

@Stoner - we both need new pictures of our respective longtails methinks...

🙂

Can't post the pic from here but

Same as the OP's pic

Loved it but just sold it as I moved house to the top of a big hill and believe me you don't want to be climbing anywhere on one.

Cruising on it always put a smile on my face. It may be a cliche but Southern California really does have lots of folks cruising to the beach on these!
